Have you heard of this band? I first heard about them because I'm a big Marco Hietala (Nightwish, Tarot) fan, so I try to check out things he's involved in. It's a project that was started by Martijn Westerholt. He was in Within Temptation but had to quit due to illness, then, of course, the band got popular! That sucks! Haha. Anyway, once he began to recover he began writing music that would later become part of Delain, a project featuring a ton of guest musicians: Marko Hielata (Nightwish, Tarot), guitarist Jan Yrlund (ex-Lacrimosa), Liv Kristine (ex-Theatre of Tragedy, Leaves' Eyes), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), Ad Sluyter (Epica), Ariƫn van Weezenbeek (God Dethroned), and George Oosthoek and Guus Eikens (ex-Orphanage). I'm not sure what role they all play in the band's debut full-length (I just have the download now), but he did release a demo in 2002, maybe some are on that demo.

Lucidity is their debut full-length. At this point we're not surprised with the whole goth-rock/metal thing, but this CD is excellent! Nothing original, but the songs are excellent. They found a fairly unknown singer in Charlotte Wessels; her voice is excellent, very similar to Anneke from The Gathering (they even have a great song called "The Gathering," which Hietala sings on, and can be heard on the website and MySpace page). There are some death metal grunts, but for the most part Charlotte is the main vocalist (which is why I don't know where Liv Kristine and such fit in).

Anyway, until I get the CD and really give it some listens I can't give a final verdict, but right now I find the CD to be excellent.

On a side note, do you think the singer of this band looks like this girl I know?

Chick I know (watch the video to compare, and don't be a retard and insult her):

Interesting that you mention these guys. My girlfriend was just asking me the other day if I'd heard of them and knew of any other songs out there she could listen to after checking out their myspace page. I'll have to check the links out since I haven't heard them at all yet.

Since she doesn't much discuss music here, haha, I think she'd like this group based off of the few times she's discussed anything music-related.

Heh, yeah, I know she liked what she had heard off of their myspace page. She hasn't seen the video yet, however, and I suspect that she won't care as much for that.

For me, well... this really isn't my thing. While I do like old Tristania, Sirenia, and early After Forever on occasion (along with a handful of others), most of the bands that fall into this grouping don't do anything for me. Yeah, I know that if you really break it down, you can point out that old Tristania (or whoever) is nothing like this anyway, but you probably get the point I'm trying to make.

EDIT - Oh, and aside from the hair, I really don't see much resemblance between the two, sorry. And I'd put a tongue smiley at the end of that, but it fucking sucks and doesn't have the emphasis you'd expect.

I do not care for that song or the video.
But I do like The Gathering and Sleepwalker's Dream.

And I do not think your friend looks like the Delain girl. (Ditto on the tongue smiley thing.)

There is a bonus track of "Frozen" that includes death metal grunts. Maybe that song will do it for you? I don't know. It's a good CD, I think.

It's all good. I just kind of saw a resemblence, I don't know. Maybe that picture of my friend isn't a good choice. Haha.
