Do any of you actually listen to Doom?

This whole forum is rife with goth nonsense.. whatever happened to abandoning all hope, ye who enter here?

What's your favourite brand of doom metal? Trad? Doom-Death? Funeral? Sludge? Stoner? Drone? Or Epic?

I listen to doom, but not nearly as much as I should :? Overall I like it more than Goth metal. I don't know shit about the brands....haven't heard any stoner, drone or sludge. Candlemass and Solitude Aeternus are the only Doom bands I've heard more than a few songs by, both great bands. Avrigus sounds good too, Doom with female vocals.

Candlemass are Epic, they more or less started that little movement. Grand Magus are stoner with trad elements.. stoner's probably the biggest things happening in Doom right now unless you count the odd little prog-sludge bands like Mare that pop up and try and insert jazz and hardcore into the genre..

I love doom metal, but there isn't enough good doom metal out there. I love bands like Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus, recently I picked up The Eternal and really liked that CD, but it's like gothic doom. I don't know, I've been looking for Solstice. I heard they were excellent.

I mainly listen to doom-metal with other influences... Doom/Death
(MDB, Morgion...) or (flame me if u like

) Goth/Doom (Forest of Shadws, Draconian...) Only when i'm experiencing bonecrushing depression i listen to Funeral doom bands... (Shape of Despair, Skepticism)

What i heard from trad and epic doom sides didn't quitre impress me so i never delved in those subgenres. Ok i listened to Grand magus and Reverend Bizarre and i liked those...

I listened to some Stoner/Doom (Sleep) too but i was always sober (damn

Regarding drone (Earth, Sunn0))))... I find i quite hard to digest

I'm right there with Radagast, I have not heard much Doom. Only a few tracks by Candlemass. I was actually pretty impressed.

This is a genre I have been meaning to look into more.

Thanks to my purchase of Nortt's Graven and the Nortt/Xasthur split, I now love Funeral Doom.

Cathedral is awesome as well.

I love the good Candlemass songs; the average ones are hard to sit through.

Pentagram has some great stuff as well.

except it's a very well known fact that a clever drug use opens the "doors of perception", it's true with LSD (which I do not wish to try because I find it a tad too extreme :oops: ), it's also true with cannabis that is known to be used by numerous yogis in India...

and then, I'd ask you what your religious/philosophical beliefs are and if you never break any rule of it ? :wink:

Well, the only reason I bring it up is b/c you are pretty out spoken about being a Buddhist. But, a religious debate is the last thing I would like to be a part of, so let’s talk Doom metal.

Any recommendations? Preferably a band that sounds like Candlemass.

I've only recently discovered funeral doom and I can say I like it a lot. It sounds a lot like black metal and my favourite band so far, Stabat Mater, is actually the side project of one of the big names in BM, Mikko Aspa.

I'm like the 15th person to say this here but I have heard a few Candlemass songs and I was very impressed so I'm retrieving
some of their albums and I'm open to any recommendations.

and I like Xasthur if it has a place here.
