I downloaded a mega doom pack cause i wanted to discover a new genre but i dont know which album to start with.

The following bands are included in the pack:
Confessor
Count Raven
Eletric Wizard
Empyrium
Orodruin
Place of Skulls
Solstice
Goatsnake
The Gates of Slumber
Doomshine
The Obsessed
The Prophecy
Warning
Reverend Bizarre (the only one i know. )
So what band should i check out first?

that stuff's all epic, traditional or stoner doom. Try a Confessor album because I know you like technical metal..

edit: place of skulls is very very christian, I don't know your thoughts on christian metal but there's your warning, haha

I dont really give a shit if it's christian, satanic or whatever as long as it's good.

I'll check out confessor this week then. More technical metal, yeah! And now tech-doom!

@Stefan: yeah i have listened to Candlemass but i did not really like Epicus, liked the s/t better..

You knew it was coming: You need some Solitude Aeturnus and Candlemass in there.

NOW!

The only band I know on that list is Count Raven, and they get a big BOOOOOOO! form me. Although, if you can stand Ozzy's voice you might like them.

As much as I like them, Candlemass is... just... better. :P

EDIT: And if My Dying Bride is the "Mother of all Doom Metal", then Candlemass, Thergothon, so on and so forth are the mothers of the mothers of the mothers of the mother of all Doom Metal.

The Mother of All Doom Metal must be really fat and have no personality because she's slooooooooooooooooow and boring.

Well I love MDB.

As to your list Dago, The Prophecy struck me as pretty technical for a doom band so maybe that is what you are looking for.

I've actually been meaning to give MDB another shot at some point. I heard them years ago, I'm wondering if my tastes have changed. Not high on my list, though.

I'm glad you are willing to give them another try. Remember which albums you thought were too slow and boring? Maybe I could point you to another album.

It would have made more sense as "MDB-mother of death/doom", but then that is quite disputable too.

MDB is nothing of doom. Just the most famous band as of late.

MDB is the one doom/death band among the Paradise Lost, Anathema, Katatonia group still playing a variant of doom. That is their claim to uniqueness.

Even if Lizardtail would refer to that variant as Buffy-doom.

I second lizardtail's sentiment.

Also, more accurate would be:

Mother of MDB: Winter

Try: Goatsnake, Electric Wizard, Reverend Bizarre and Confessor (Stefan recommended the same bands, btw). And I don't think Empyrium belongs here, but that's just me.

And Mother of Black Metal is Cradle of Filth/Dimmu Borgir, right?

Goatsnake, Electric Wizard, Reverend Bizarre and Confessor i say, though its probably not the best places to start.

You must check out Witchfinder General, Saint Vitus, Dark Quarterer, Candlemass etc
