I like the Light At The End Of The World (or something) best...

"The angel and the dark river" is amazing. Uniquely sad, melodic and melancholic. Absolute masterpiece.
But all their albums range from good to great, with the possible weird exception of "34.788%... complete", so... take your pick.

I like some of their stuff but I usually can't finish one whole album by them without a big YAWN. Some good shit but gets boring.

Man, My Dying Bride are awesome. From my experiences of them, my favourite is probably Like Gods of the Sun, although Turn Loose the Swans is also classic. I listened very briefly to The Dreadful Hours and liked what I heard a lot, as well.

Angel and the Dark river is a lot rawer, I think, although I am not as familiar with this one. The only one to approach with caution is 37.3334%.... whatever its called. This one's quite "experimental", but I'm not sure it comes off much of the time.

But they are a great band.

Best metal group from the uk ever ,all there stuff is good, but last few albums in my opinion not as good as early stuff,as the flower slowly withers got me from buying bon jovi, and posion lps to getting into the underground. And for that i am forever in there debt.

I also think My Dying Bride is England's best ever metal band. I find Judas Priest and Black Sabbath somewhat yawn-inducing, I like Maiden though. Sure not everyone likes MDB but I care not.

Turn Loose the Swans is the best offer from their older period, but frankly their last two albums have really been excellent too. The Dreadful Hours or Songs of Darkness, Words of Light are also good starting points.

Are we not entitled to opinions? I'll admit if I had grown up with it I would have liked them, I'm sure.

How can you compare My Dying Bride with Iron Maiden?

Iron Maiden made instant classics like Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind. Did you ever see MDB in a Best Metal Album List anywhere?

Look, thousands of metalheads name Sabbath and Priest their favorite band. Hundreds of opinion polls and critics list them among the best metal bands ever. My Dying Bride is well below the radar compared to those bands and always will be. A few people already slammed them in this thread so I had to state my case. So what if my opinion isn't popular?

I said I liked Maiden. I like Piece of Mind, Powerslave and Seventh Son a lot. Why should anyone care what's on a best metal album list anyway?

I agree. The only reason I ever tried to listen to Priest or Sabbath was because they were the bands that opened up the metal scene. I am not going to say they are the reason the term "progress" means better than what was first. But I will say I am glad that the metal scene progressed. It was easy to ditch Sabbath early in since Ozzy has seemed to be a joke for the last 10 years, but it took more for me to dismiss Priest: a picture of Rob Halford. It's a wonder metal is where it is today if it was led by Captain Mumbles and what looks to be Mr. Clean leading pride parade in South Beach.

Though I tip my hat to them for being so drugged out they made sounds that were considered "groundbreaking", I'll never say that I like the music they made.
