Any fans of Novembers Doom ?
Just got their new release today, so far I enjoy it much more than their previous one. I'll be giving more feedback/impressions as I get more listens, but I'm really curious as to what your impressions are ?
Did you have the chance to hear their new release ? If so what is your appreciation of the album ?

After 5 spins I can easily say that this is a great album!
Even though this album is better when listened as a whole than as individual songs, a couple of them stand out such as "Harvest Scythe", "Six Sides" and the two parter "Of Age and Origin" (especially the eerie second part).

In terms of sound it's a lot more diversified than "Into night's requiem infernal". You'll find doom songs , doom-death hybrids sparkled with agressive drumming (see Harvest Scythe) as well as dark/gothic balladry such as the nice "What could have been".

Not that i'm surprised by the quality, but I find this album very exciting and reminds me of the pleasure I had when I discovered the band through "The Novella Reservoir", something I haven't felt with their previous record.

I've heard the pale haunt departure and it was pretty good.

I got tired of these guys in a very early stage and never went back to them. I found their song structure very weak but that was a long time ago so I might have a different opinion about them now.

Pale Haunt Departure is great but I prefer "The Novella Reservoir" because it mixes death elements within the Doom which makes it moredynamic IMO.

Anything before "To Welcome the fade" is different IMO.
Starting with "The Novella reservoir" they introduced death metal elements in their song structures, so if you like Novella you'll definitely like "Aphotic". "Into Night's Requiem Infernal" was more along the lines of "The Pale Haunt Departure", although less enjoyable IMO.

Definitley a worthy listen.

I've heard very good things about it so I'm definitely going to check it out in the near future. Someone should review it.

I was a huge fan of doom metal (funeral doom to be precise) but somewhere along the way as the circumstances of my personal life changed, and I stopped listening to doom metal. It's the same with this album, I can't get into the atmosphere of this album. Maybe later on in life when things come crashing down again

I am listening to Skepticism - Alloy and I find them very captivating. I suppose Novembers Doom was a shallow and passing interest for me. My interest in funeral doom hasn't died which makes me very happy. This album either has more to explore or will grow on me more with repetitive listens. What makes me come back to funeral doom is the spiritual feeling that it creates deep inside ones self.

This sounds really good. All I've heard from them is The Pale Haunt Departure and I haven't listened to that in quite sometime. I'll plan on checking this one out further.

I love everything they've done, under-rated doom for sure.

Hi GB, I had this pre-ordered on iTunes. I forgot about its release, so when the notification came through late that Monday night that it was available I immediately downloaded it and sat up until 2am listening to it twice. I feel the way that you do, I think it's a better release than Aphotic. Not that ND has ever released bad album...ever. I'm really enjoying this one. Have you seen recent pictures of Paul Kuhr? He's lost a great deal of weight. He looks totally different.
