I wanted to start a thread about them since you can't comment on their first two reviews.

I loved Somber Romantic after I first heard it and going back to it I still respect it but it really is just so thrown together. That lack of direction isn't as surprising considering the poor production on the album. Songs like Midnight Hymn and Walk without Limbs are some of my favorite things they've done. The Trance EP had similar sounds to Walk Without Limbs which is interesting.

Going back to Elegant and Dying after these past few years it is really underwhelming. They focused their sound but the songwriting just isn't there. Those songs all too often just fall into the background. Unless the song writing improves, this leaves me uninterested in hearing Pianissimo if it ever comes out.

Mezzo Forte is decent and an improvement but ultimately kinda a generic sound I think. I feel like record pressure to find a direction kinda pushed them away from that creativity in Somber.

Fortissimo is awesome and a solid example of their style even if it lacks those blackened vocals and industrial tinges from Somber which they seem to have left behind.

I've listened to Requiem - Mezzo Forte this morning and Requiem, Kyrie has been in stuck in my head since then.
I can definitely understand where you're coming from when you think the sound is somewhat generic but it just works.
It's becoming one of my favourite gothic/doom albums actually.
I should give Requiem Fortissimo another listen though, haven't listened to that one for a while now.
I've read somewhere that Pianissimo should be out in december this year.

I just started listening to Requiem, Mezzo Forte right now, and I am blown away by how absolutely bleak and beautiful it is. I really can't say anything else but wow..

Fortissimo is darker and Somber Romantic is sadder. I don't know my input. Your first encounter with the band, Steve?

I think they're a wonderful newly discovered band, I rarely if ever am astounded by a band's output, and Virgin black are something that left me more curious. When I start work I'll be ordering some more of their material.
