Ok, I am going to try not to flip out here. I really like the enigmatic MZ's other band, Arcana Coelestia, but Urna is even better. In fact, I am dangerously close to saying Urna's latest album, 2009's Inter ad Lucem, is better than anything Esoteric have recorded. Check out two full tracks from that album on their myspace here: http://www.myspace.com/urnaproject

Yeah, good stuff.

I think Esoteric are better, though.

Yeah, Esoteric is probably better, I was just giddy over this album. Thanks for pointing me to your review!

Urna made funeral doom just sound really fresh (and not continually snail paced) on this release, and that, from my prospective, is really, really hard to do.

When in the proper mood, Funeral Doom is some good stuff.
Urna is great, as Arcana Ceolestia, my favorite FD is probably Catacombs, or Shape of Despair, though.

Have you heard Abyssmal Sorrow?

Indeed, Shape of Despair is difficult to top. I'm going back through funeral doom again: I looked at a bunch of more obscure stuff Adam once recommended, plus old stuff like Monolithe, Mornful Congregation, and of course, Skepticism. I haven't heard Abyssmal Sorrow, so I'll have to check them out too. Thanks for the recommendation.

Skepticism is one of the best.
Check out Wormphlegm - In An Excruciating Way, etcetcetc., if you haven't already; pretty interesting.

Yes, Skepticism is the definition of mood music, but damn are they good in that mood. I will check out Wormphlegm, thanks again for the recommendations.

Not exactly funeral doom, but have you checked out either Dolorian or Unholy before? Two more of my favorite Finnish bands.

I haven't.
I'll look into them.
Yeah, check out Wormphlegm. Pretty wicked stuff, though not for everyone. If you want, I'll send you the album via e-mail.

I'd be honored, and I'd be happy to return the favor on the two I just listed.

I have Urna's latest but have yet to listen to it. I love FD but have to be in "the mood" as I'm sure most here agree so I don't want to ruin the impression. When it clicks it can be an amazing experience though. Mournful Congregation is awesome, and I've been listening to Unholy a bit lately. I honestly prefer the really insane draggingly slow pace FD offers, and is one of the reasons I love rare old-school death/doom bands. That atmosphere is stagnatingly evil.
