A great concept, but bands in this sub-sub-genre seem to be extremely difficult to come across. Anyone mind helping me out? The only one I really know about is Culted.

Heh, I was going to say Culted when I saw the name of the thread.

I don't think there are many bands doing this type of thing. Have you tried Nortt?

I can only think of some funeral doom bands. Dictator, perhaps?

Listening to some stuff from Galgenfrist right now. Good stuff, but a bit more ambient-oriented than I was hoping for.

Same as above, good music, but a bit slower than what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the recommendations all the same, though. I'll continue my search.

I know I have no recommendations, but the folks on MA have a recommendation thread for stuff like that. They can give you a lot of different recommendations. Try that bro

Thanks to Last.FM, I found a band called Raventale that sounds EXACTLY like what i was hoping to find. Sounds almost like a blackened version of Swallow The Sun or Draconian. I'll be listening to this band a helluva lot within the next couple weeks, I have a feeling.

Anymore since last year? Doom Metal is awesome and I don't know why this section never gets any posts.

Idk if you guys are still here but woods of Ypres may be what your looking for. Try woods 2 and woods 3 for the black doom. Woods 2 especially. Woods 5 may be in my top 5 albums for 2012. Though there is less black influence than on woods 2 and woods 3. I think woods 2 may be exactly what your looking for though.

Woods 5 the black metal is very much overshadowed by the doom influence. But a great album none the less.

I liked "Pursuit of the Sun & Allure of the Earth" (not sure what number that is) way back when, but then I thought Woods of Ypres became too soft. I see their last album got a bunch of praise from yourself and others though, so maybe I'll give it a shot.

That's woods two you mentioned. They totally changed sounds you are absolutely correct. Woods 5 is more doom rock with a touch of black metal in the vocals of certain songs.

Haha I try to push woods 5 on everyone. It's such a good album. It takes a couple spins for the melodies and vocal hooks to catch on but if you give it the time it's really good.

Besides woods 5 woods 2 is thier best album. It was the perfect blend of doom and black metals in my opinion. After that album he started phasing the black more and more out. Woods 4 has some good tracks as does 3 but they aren't great albums as a whole.

I could go on and on about woods but I think I covered it all. Oh fuck it. The lyrics on woods 5 are what hooked me. They mostly are about death but it's not a depressing album it's actually uplifting. The lack of a afterlife and basically enjoying the time you have here on earth because this is all there is are the lyrical themes for the most part. They take on a prophetic meaning though since he died right after the album was recorded. That adds a weight and meaning to the lyrics in my opinion.

Ok I'm done. Haha

I've never listened to them I'm sad to say. I've heard good things though. You like them Trapt? If you do what album would you start with?

Edit: I have listened to anaal nathrakh though. A lot.

I only know the album, Hatred for Mankind and I think it's awesome. I think it has that weird misanthropic blackened vibe that AN has of just spitting venom distilled into the sound of a doom album with moments of droning. It's interesting, and it grows on you.
