Only Cathedral album I have is Garden of Unearthly Delights, which I adore, should I invest in Cathedral's back catalog?

Also any other bands that have that upbeat rocking doom thing going?

And secondly, since I've lately been in the mood to listen to lots of doom, what funeral doom is good (besides Nortt whom I am familiar with)?

Finally, anyone got any recommendations for hardcore influenced doom like Unearthly Trance?

Thanking thee in advance fair doomsters

Cathedral - Yes. Check out the reviews here. Check The Lamp Of Thoth out, too.

Funeral Doom - Hm, a fair bit gets reviewed. Check out Urna and Arcana Coelestia. Esoteric and Evoken are great, too.

Hardcore Doom is pretty much Sludge, so Eyehategod, Crowbar, etc. The guy from UT used to be in a BM band called Thralldom that's well worth your time, too.

I keep meaning to review some, but eh, the list is endless. Check Howling Wind and Villains out too, some other Lipynsky projects that are pretty good.

Yeah you really should invest in some more Cathedral, particularly maybe Endtyme, Forest of Equilibrium... those two are really dark and ugly, as opposed to the more cheery psychedelic likes of Supernatural Birth Machine.

Funeral Doom isn't really my bag but I would definitely second the recommendation of Esoteric. Essential if you like that kind of thing. Although very few people do, so...

Hardcore doom? If you mean sludgy goodness as Goat says there is plenty to go for. Try Centurion's Ghost, and the seriously fucking legendary (but now dead) Iron Monkey, plus those bands Goat mentions.

I guess I'll be the one to point out the obvious and say you should check out both Electric Wizard and Reverend Bizarre (both of which you've probably heard and/or heard of). Both are solid bets if you like Cathedral. And yes, Cathedral has a very consistent, and very kickass discography.

For funeral doom, diSEMBOWELMENT and Evoken are my two favorites. Others I would check out that haven't been mentioned in this thread: Shape of Despair, Winter, Thergothon, Ea, Monolithe.

Also, even though they were doomdeath, I highly recommend Paradise Lost (back when they were still a doom band). The album Gothic by them is classic.

Thergothon, Shape of Despair are good.
Haven't heard the others.
Since nobody mentioned them, I'll call Forgotten Tomb, though not purely a doom band. And Pantheist.

Oh yeah, V, Pantheist is also a good suggestion. I like.

Although, I read they had changed their sound completely in recent times. Can't remember where, I think probably in Terrorizer.

I have O, Solitude, quite good, yes.
Haven't heard the new stuff, so I couldn't say.

Another good Funeral Doom band is Abyssmal Sorrow.
