One song has a distinct Korn sound. ONE song. "Closer" sounds like a Paradise Lost song, no one is claiming they copied Paradise Lost!

Here is the difference between Paradise Lost (Symbol of Life and the S/T which is love) and the new Lacuna Coil. Paradise Lost knows how to write a riff and construct a song for this style and Holmes has an excellant voice, on the newest Lacuna Coil they don't show an apptitude for writing good riffs or a cohesive songs and the vocals are all fucked up, especially the Male ones. I don't mind you want modern shit in your music, just write a good fucking song around it LC didn't do that on this album, at all.

As far as copying Paradise Lost, since they did one Second virtually every band in the world that has massively shifted styles to a Gothic style has copied them so it goes with out saying.

Even the mighty PL fucked up mightly on Host and Believe in Nothing, in fact, Believe in Nothing although much better then Karma Code was almost as horrible as a fuck up as this mess from LC, they came back strong and admitted they put out a crap album, maybe Lacuna Coil will do the same if people hate it?

Isn't it about time they just got rid of Andrea Ferro?

Anyway, I see what Eyesore means about the Middle Eastern melodies, but to me this just sounds like a natural extension, or elaboration, of the tonalities they were already using on previous albums, and not a conscious "going ethnic" decision. Chromaticism in metal has a sound that is actually not that far away from Middle Eastern scales, and LC bring this out more than most.

But this has unquestionably been nu-metalled up. Even if it were only one song that's more than in the past, anyway, and it sounds kind of dated to the late 90s at times.

edit: despite that, I do like this album :P

My point was that people keep harping on this Korn thing, I said it the second I heard that song that this would happen. Yes, with that riff and that bass tone it will draw comparisons, it still doesn't sound like Korn! It just has elements that are reminiscent. And in the end, it's just ONE song, why label the entire CD a Korn rip off? Especially considering that ONE song sounds like a Paradise Lost song.

As for the vocals, you're out of your mind! Dislike the music and the songs all you want, but the vocals sound exactly the same!! Sure, Andrea doesn't get heavy like he does at the end of "Angel's Punishment" from Comalies, but he rarely ever got that heavy. His vocals here are identical to those on the previous albums. Anyone stating otherwise is hearing something they want to hear, not something that is actually there.

Nu-metal is a scapegoat for way too much. I mean, In Flames have gone nu-metal, too, right? Where does In Flames and Lacuna Coil sound the same? A riff does not make something nu-metal. Lacuna Coil does not sound like Spineshank or Primer 55 or Project 86 (great band) or Staind! It's so ridiculous that so many people claim to hate a genre, yet they freely throw that genre name around so ignorantly. I hate it.

Yes, this album has a more modern sound to the guitar riffs, but it is NOT a nu-metal album. It still sounds like a Lacuna Coil album.

I'm not being ignorant. We agree that there is more nu on this album, and I think on more than one song. But of course we shouldn't label an album according to just one of it's ingredients.

Haha, and the phrase "nu metalled up" is a bit crass I admit :P

I never said you were being ignoran. Well, not in this thread, anyway. And yes, there are more modern riffs on most of the songs, or at least elements, this is true. I still feel, though, that this sounds like a Lacuna Coil album and to me a band succeeds when they can change and still sound like the same band, you know? Throw on Jester Race and Soundtrack To Your Escape, I like both albums, but they don't sound like the same band on each.

i think when a lot of people say a band went numetal it means that they rely too much on dowtuned, heavily distorted power chords, catchy songs and simple hooks and so on

Sorry, we are just going to have to disagree. This is just simply not a good album, and no, the vocals do not sound the same, neither the dudes or Scabbia's

Just finished listening to the album after downloading it the other day.

And i must say that my first impression is that i am disappointed with it. I wasnt impressed at all after a fine effort on Comalies. Is it just me, or have Lacuna Coil gone more mainstream?
In some parts i thought i was listening to Evanesence, in others they sounded like a cross between Within Temptation and Xandria.

I also didnt like the male vocals, this band doesnt need male vocals.

I'll give it more spins in the next few days, but nothing really stood out for me. The only song i thought was really good is "To The Edge". The rest just felt...plain, like their energy had been zapped from the music

Ditto, except both Evanacense and Within Temptation put out better albums recently

I lived in Italy for 6 months and I must admit that there are some damn fine women there, but looking at the older generation I'm thinking they all shrink, acquire a hunchback and turn into sidewalk sweepers. They don't seem to age well.
