nothing sucks as much as black metal. I'll take those comments from a black metal fan as a complement, cause they obvioulsy have no clue about music.

It is possible not to like Nightwish, check my previous post for reasons.

Theyre not that bad. To quote Fingon, 'mediocre'.

Heres why I can't stand Nightwish:

1. Tarja has a nice voice, no doubt, but her english pronounciations annoyes the hell out of me. Even when I take into account that shes Finnish. I can still endure Cristina Scabbia's pronounciations, but not Tarja.

You sir are a fool.

I love the way Tarja (and many other scandanavian singers) mispronounce words. For example the whole "pronouncing V's as W's" thing is fantastic e.g in Nightwish's cover of walking in the air:

"The williges go by like trees"

And in I Wish I had an angel:

"Your wirgin mary undone"

And if you dont get a kick out of the way Tarja pronounces swords in the song Elvenpath then heaven help you.

Oh my fvkking god that is the worst pronounciation I've ever heard in my life. I actually did'nt believe what she sang until I read the lyrics for that song :?

Going a little off topic, Edu Falaschi's pronounciation on Angra's album "Rebirth" is quite lousy as well...in the title track, when he sings the line "so lucid in the jungle" I thought he sang "so lousy in the tango" (seriously) , I thought "what the fuck is this song about???", then I read the lyrics :P

Well I love Nightwish so I don't really care about Tarja's pronounciation, a lot of band's have problems with the pronounciation on their first albums (Rhapsody comes to mind  )

Most foreign band's mispronounce English words. Their tongues just don't work right on certain words! I was stationed in S. Korea in 2000 and we went to a kareoke bar and this Korean dude got up and sang "Lolling On A Liva!" Hahaha. It was awesome! They can't say any word with a "z" in it over there either, they don't have any "z" sound in any of their words, they just can't pronounce it correctly. Pizza comes out as Peecha. =)

I can't stand Nightwish. But then, I can't stand opera. It's entirely the vocal style.

Just as some people can't stand really brutal death or black metal for the vocals, some people can't stand operatic bands like Nightwish for the vocals. I am one of them.

when its meant to be funny its doesnt really matter. like that William Hung idiot.

but when its supposed to be serious, even slightly serious, as in a metal band, for example Nightwish, the mispronounciation gets really annoying. At some point you just stop listening to the music and subconciously focus on the vocals. She has a nice voice, no doubt, but she should stick to singing in Finnish.

I don't like 'em one bit.
I don't like overdone keyboards with my metal. Especially if they sound like a bad movie soundtrack.
