I was talking about the fact that in the past couple of days I've been having to defend myself against claims that I'm a "prick" and whatnot to seemingly new members of the board. I shouldn't have to do that. I didn't make such quick judgements against others when I joined in April.

With a statement like this, I am the overly sensitive one?

And apparently I'm a new member now too!

Eyesore, you turned me onto the new Amorphis and that was cool of you. I also really enjoy your enthusiasm for music. But your comment on my last post was a little harsh and unwarranted.

Joking around and being sarcastic is not the same as being a comedian. Plus, I've said it like 4 times in like 9 months. Hardly a reason for me to even be justifying it against claims that I'm some sort of asshole.

I'm not saying you're an asshole; I'm saying that sometimes you don't know when to quit.

There's a little saying about a pot and a kettle, ever heard it? Again, saying something like four times does not warrant replies like "you don't know when to quit" or "you're kind of a prick." Sorry.

Well, you know, some people are uber sensitive about BM comments. The whole thing could have been blown off with a 'pfft whatever' but instead someone simply must take exception to it.

I don't think so Lizardtail. I edited my post because I wanted to be sure and get my point across. But I don't think it is nasty in any way. Eyesore is a much better debater than I anyway.

Well, you were the one that called me a "prick," but my "seemingly new members" comment was just a general statement as lately posters like Arthur and a few others have sort of taken unwarranted jabs at me.

I'm not here to argue with people, I'm hear to discuss music and entertain myself. I am passionate about music, and I defend my opinion, and I also joke around quite a bit. Those contrasting styles seem to confuse people, but when it gets childish that's just a bit too much for me. Then I get and attitude.

I come here for the same reasons. I'm sorry about the prick comment. Let's move on.

That's neither here nor there.

I could swear you've said it more, but it's pretty obvious that this is going nowhere and causing nothing but undue friction, so let's forget it ever happened.

Eyesore and his opinions on black metal add about as much to the discourse as whenever I talk about Opeth. We should just give it a rest, but it is so hard sometimes!

My opinions on black metal? I don't give any opinions on black metal! I said three words, "black," "metal" and "sucks." Quite an opinion. More importantly, though, that is a joke, that's the only thing I've ever said about black metal on this board because I know very little about the genre. If it's a band I know, I will comment, otherwise I don't.

If you know very little about a subject, why comment, even facetiously?
That being said, wiggers suck.

Because that's what I do, I joke around. May I suggest new people to the forum get to know other posters first before making judgement. I didn't come on the board in April and start cussing people out.

Who came on the board in April and started cussing people out? and what does that have to do with anything?
Inserting a disclaimer before talking shit doesn't really cut it, sorry... often times "it's just a joke" is a thinly-veiled excuse to espouse your true feelings, without the .annoying resulting backlash.
You don't like a certain genre, fine... next topic.

I was talking about the fact that in the past couple of days I've been having to defend myself against claims that I'm a "prick" and whatnot to seemingly new members of the board. I shouldn't have to do that. I didn't make such quick judgements against others when I joined in April.

I actually think black metal sucks, but I've heard very little of it so I make no judgement on the genre as a whole, thus a short quip here and there is simply a joke and no reason—like I just said—for me to have to defend my comments.

Dude, does the saying "those living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" mean anything to you?
You make gross, ill-informed statements, you will find yourself in the (well deserved) position of defending yourself, thats the way it goes.

I may very well have said it more than that, still not a lot, though. Regardless, this is a thread about the greatness that is Evanescence. Get it back on topic!

"Black metal sucks" in a joking manner—when it is widely know that I know dick about black metal because I freely admit it—is a "gross ill-informed statement?" Goddamn. I guess I am a prick.

I never called you a prick.
Heres some simple math:

"Black metal sucks" + I know dick about black metal = gross ill-informed statement.

I guess since Zad stopped the liberal proselytizing this place has really needed some more "heated" debating to counter balance the "who do you love the most" threads... The metal gods resurrected V at just the right time, it seems. :P

I know you never called me a prick. Can anyone make a general statement here?

And your equation is way off base. You're taking my "black metal sucks" statement as if it were said in all seriousness. I would think by now, after saying it a million times—or, rather, a few times in this thread alone (since we need to be very specific here)—that it was said in jest, in a joking manner, that I shouldn't STILL be justifying it. Thus I made no ill-informed statement because it was nary a statement at all.

No heat, all is cool.
I have sworn off politics, but saying Black Metal sucks a hundred times with no foundation of actual knowledge to go by, well, lets just say that is not very flattering to that persons intelligence.
There is more emotion and meaning in a single Burzum song than the entire catalogue of Kittie, Evanescence, and whatever else he seems to champion around here, combined.
Did I say those bands "suck"? No, that would be juvenile.
They are definitely not for me, though; meh, theres something for everyome in this world.

What's supposed to be funny about it?
Seriously, if that is the best you can do, perhaps comedy isn't your thing.
"Jokes" are often thinly veiled statements, every thinking person understands that old altruism.
And, no... my equation adds up, so to speak.

Nice jab, thanks for proving my earlier point. Again, how many fucking times do I have to say that I only said it a few times for it to sink in? Who were you before? Or in two days have you got me all figured out? I'm sure you've never said "[Insert band] sucks!" or "Nu-metal sucks!", right?

I'm glad you like black metal, when you see me really giving an opinion on the subject then chime in, otherwise beat it. There's only so many ways I can say the same thing, if you choose to not understand it then that is your problem, not mine.

And for the record, I will champion any band on this board that I like, just like you're trying to be the hero of black metal.
