I don't know that much candlemass... what do you suggest? (apart from the obvious epicus doomicus metallicus)

try Nightfall and the latest (self-titled)

and yes, Messiah leaving sucks but that doesn't mean it's the end of Candlemass... 8)

Except that I think he was the best singer they had.

Darn. Although I dloaded EDM the other day and liked it (not loved, sorry Liz!), so he's not ESSENTIAL to the band. Now, if Leif (sp?) left... :(

As someone who just got into Candlemass and only has the latest album - I'll say "meh"

While I didn’t hate the vocals, I really felt like the songs could have benefited from someone more Danzig-ish.... like the guy from Grand Magus for example.

I’m sure if I had more of a background with this band, I'd feel different (as I usually hate singer changes).

Who is not essential to the band ? Messiah Marcolin is not essential because you think Johan Lanquist, the vocalist in EDM is better ?

That's a pretty believable excuse, Messiah appears to be a bit of a loose cannon.

Best part of that article is Leif saying the new stuff will be like the self-titled, but darker. Woot!
