Mine would have to be, in no particular order Burzum-Hvis Lyset Tar Oss Darkthrone-A Blaze In The Northern Sky Leviathan-Tentacles Of Whorror Immortal-Blizzard Beasts Emperor-Anthems To The Welkins At Dusk I'm reasonably new to black metal, and I'm uber-picky when it's comes to music, so that's why I could only get five. A find the best black metal albums are the ones you can listen to all the way through without feeling completely exhausted (I get sleepy listening to music, because I can't listen and do other things at the sane time) and all these albums definetely have that. |

Ummmmmmmmm........ errrr... Nicht im ordnung Ulver- Nattens Madrigal Bathory- Under the Sign of the Black Mark Emperor- Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk Probably will get back to you on the other two... I was going to put Ulver- Bergtatt in there but I think the list is more aesthetically pleasing with 5 different bands in. Wommannnnnnnn of daaark deeeesiresssss |

Emperor-In the Nightside Eclipse Negura Bunget-Om Ulver-Bergtatt Satyricon-Dark Medieval Times Leviathan-Tenth Sublevel of Suicide Forgotten Tomb(Black or Doom)-Songs to Leave Blut Aus Nord-Memoria Vetusta I Drudkh-The Swan Road Borknagar-The Olden Domain Enslaved-Vikingligr Veldi Immeadiately this list stikes me as inadequate, and perhaps overly Norwegian, but it does cover a number of styles within the genre at least. |

Off the top of my head, no particular order: Venom - Black Metal Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark Hellhammer - Apocalyptic Raids (black, death, death/doom, who gives a fuck?!) Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Burzum - Burzum Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky Beherit - Drawing Down the Moon Master's Hammer - Ritual Deathspell Omega - Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice Blasphemy - Fallen Angel of Doom There's tons more stuff that really made a lasting impression on me, like Clandestine Blaze (best nowadays BM band along with DsO,) Ofermod's EP and Graveland's old works. Morbid Angel could also be mentioned, a death metal band that's blacker than most BM. EDIT: Replaced Emperor with Blasphemy. Emperor gets an honorable mention. |
