(First of all sorry but i didn't know where to put this so i basically just dumped it here lol.)
So it would seem that i've finally found my way into more extreme metal. Sure i've listend to bands like old Metallica, Testament, Nevermore etc. before but now i've started digging Sepultura and namely the albums Chaos A.D and Roots, which i consider to be considerably heavier than anything i've digged before. Now i know these albums influenced nu metal and might not be the most liked ones among metal heads, and I don't know whether im open minded or if i've just gone mad somehow, but i love this stuff. The aggressive and proud singing, the brooding riffs, the intricate drumming and all the crazy tribal and cannibal influences. I also love the political and anti-society lyrics that spits on conformity and weak people who surrender the fight.

So now im on the lookout for more music like this for me to check out, and i wouldn't know what to look for since i haven't ever listened to anything like this before, I usually only listen to power and prog metal. I've heard some of the recent Sepultura but i didn't like that much, i heard the original singer left too.

So what gives? Im not sure of what im looking for really, I guess just good aggressive metal with a similar kind of 'attitude'. Basically i don't mind if it's working class slaves in uganda that scream and play their guts out because they think society and their situation is inhuman, just as long as the music is intelligent and feels honest.

Thanx in advance.

Dear God, you're me one year ago! . There isn't anything that sounds like Roots-era Seps, except for soulfly I guess

Yeah Municipal Waste is a good choice, but since youre already diggin some Sepultura i think it would be a good idea to check out their previous albums, start with "Arise" then "Beneath The Remains" then "Schizophrenia"(my favourite) and then "Morbid Visions", i think you should also check out Kreator, their latest "Enemy Of God" should be very accesible for you but you must listen to some of their classic albums like "Coma Of Souls" or "Pleasure To Kill", other band you should listen is Overkill dude you must listen to Overkill, almost any album will do but if you can find "Taking Over" by all means give it a try.

"Soulfly - Dark Ages" is very good, and has Max Cavalera as the singer/guitarist.

Overkill is also a good recommendation. Personally I think you should start with "Bloodletting" and/or "Killbox 13".

Soulfly-Dark Ages is the best Soulfly release by far.

I don't think it will be. Except for Napalm Death,(their name is sort of a give away) none of the things mentioned should be TOO brutal, compared to what you described as enjoying before.

Scion, listen to some Ektomorf, The Haunted and Machine Head. All three bands I would consider neo-thrash. Ektomorf specifically has a strong Roots-era Sepultura vibe to their music.

Trust me, they're not- though early Sepultura and Kreator might be a bit crazy for you. If you're going to check out Kreator, start out with Coma of Souls over Pleasure to Kill, less brutal. And Overkill is definitely a good one to start with- thrash, but as The_Voice reccomends, Taking Over and Under the Influence are more fun thrash without insane amounts of heaviness.

Soz for the late reply but i've listened to some bands on myspace now. I really like Soulfly and Ektomorph, and Machine Head isn't too bad either. On the other hand Municipal Waste was pretty awful though, way too punkish and core-ish for my taste i think. But aside from that this stuff is really good. One thing that hits me when listening to all this music is that i don't find it the least bit depressive like a lot of death and black metal i've heard, this instead gives me a good feeling, it feels almost uplifting like power metal lol.

But anyway thanks for the recommends once more, im gonna have to buy some albums now i think, although theres still some bands i need to listen to.

And btw, what do you people think of the danish band Mercenary? Im really starting to get into these guys, and i usually hate harsh vocals but these are actually to my liking and i can't explain why. Which album should i buy first?

Heh, Extreme stuff can be uplifting, although I usually find in a very different way. Suffocation and Edguy, say, very different moods.

And I haven't heard a lot from Mercenary (assuming it's the same band, melodic death/thrashy stuff?) but everything I've heard has been pretty good.

In a different way, yep. When im feeling really down though im usually not in the mood for power metal like Edguy, it does more harm than good many times. That is when i put on some heavier stuff or odd ambient music or something.

And yeah Mercenary seems to be somekind of melodeath/thrash band. Really good. http://www.myspace.com/11dreams
