Rust In Peace. It's an album I still can listen to and like as much as when I first heard it, but Master Of Puppet's has grown to bore me over the years. I can't see why this is held as their best album to so many, as Ride The Lightning is clearly superior. I'd still take Rust In Peace over either of them though. |

Master of Puppets is one of my all time favorites, it was one of the albums that got me into metal. Rust in Peace is also one of my favorites, but not nearly as classic to me as MoP. MoP is like a top 3 album and RiP is a top 10 at best. Love 'em both, but MoP is hard to beat. |

I always would have said MoP but nowadays I think RiP wins, judging by what gets played the most. |

i voted MoP but RiP is also cool (Take no Prisioners is awesome!). Master isn't my favourite Metallica album but it does have some of my favourite Metallica songs - the title track, Damage Inc. and Battery, plus Disposable Heroes and Sanitarium that are also great songs. |

Master is quite possibly the most overrated album i've ever heard, doesn't even come close to Ride or and justice. Rust is a great album and easily beats master but overall metallica > Megadeth |

RiP, easily...while RiP might be my favorite album ever, I've never really wanted to listen to anything from MoP besides the title track. In fact, I've never really liked anything by Metallica except Ride the Lightning. But as for RiP, every track is amazing...except for Dawn Patrol, which I like but not on the same level as the rest of the tracks. |

Megadeth, by a stretch. Quite possibly the most underrated band ever, in relation to their peers who so easily made it to the top. |

Master of Puppets is vastly overrated; Kill'Em All, ...And Justice and especially Ride the Lightning are all superiour to it in about every way. Master has a few excellent tracks (Battery, Master of Puppets, Orion) some good ones (Disposable Heroes, Leper Messiah), some mediocre ones (Sanitarium, Damage Inc.), and finally, a completely horrible song (The Thing That Should Not Be, a representation of what Sabbath could have been if Iommi didn't know how to write riffs). In comparison, there is Rust in Peace; Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, possibly the best Megadeth song, completely amazing in every way. The melodic Hangar 18, the thrashtastic Take No Prisoners (always makes me headbang like a madman), well crafted Five Magics, speed metal glory in Poison Was the Cure, the one slightly less good song in Lucretia, Tornado of Soul's amazing guitar work, and then... COWER YOU WEAKLINGS, TREMBLE IN FEAR, I AM YOUR RULER, LAND SEA AND AIR. Fuck yeah, Mustaine. Rust in Peace is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. Master of Puppets... Just isn't. It always confuses me why Ride the Lightning is so ignored in the Metallica canon. |

This is absolutely ridiculous. This is proof of how trends sway opinions. I'm sorry. Before it became cool to hate Metallica and Lars, and respect Dave, it was the complete opposite. Everyone shit all over Megadeth. Five years ago, if this were on any metal forum, there wouldn't be a single vote for Megadeth. It drives me nuts to see so many of you younger fans talking so much shit about an album that was a classic before you were born. It's just so easy to hate Metallica these days. It's a sickening trend. And that's exactly what it is—a trend. Someone create a new forum for those of use who were born before 1993, please. ![]() |

no man, I like most tracks off of RiP, but only dig a few on MoP. Honestly. |

Master of Puppets may be a classic but I find it hard to stay interested in it once Battery ends =( |

It's a sickening trend. And that's exactly what it is—a trend. Someone create a new forum for those of use who were born before 1993, please. ![]() Translation: "I have no argument, so I'm going to say that I'm older than all of you and that you're all just following a trend." Once again, the "you're too young to have been there when it came out!" argument rears its head, probably one of the most illogical ones out there. If we're talking impact, then there's no question that Master of Puppets has had more than than Rust in Peace; but when discussing artistic quality, age is irrelevant, except perhaps in providing context. All of us here weren't alive when The Lord of the Rings was written; I suppose that should stop us from ever being able to criticize it, or say that another book is better than it? After all, it was a classic before I was born (not attacking Lord of the Rings here, just saying how absurd it is to say that since you weren't part of a scene when something came out, that excludes you from the right to criticize it). And if you can so easily state that liking Megadeth over Metallica is immediately a trend, then I can do just the opposite and say that people liking Metallica over Megadeth was always a trend in itself. Of course, I can't, because its ridiculous to just assume that everyone who likes something does so because its a trend, right? As I said before, I do like Metallica; in fact, Ride the Lightning is in my top 25 albums of all time, and I still give Kill'Em All and ...And Justice a listen every two months or so. My contention is simply with Master of Puppets, an album I find to be incredibly overrated. There is no question for me that Rust in Peace is a better album. So Ken, while I like you, I reccomend that you stop using the fucking age argument and accept that people can have an opinion different than yours without being trendwhores or too young to appreciate blah blah blah. Fin. Sorry if I come off as a bit of an asshole here, but seriously, everytime I see the age argument, a little part of me dies inside. |
