So, I've been wanting to review a thrash classic for awhile now. My problem is that I have 4 albums that I love almost equally, and I can't decide which one to review first. Due to this, I am asking for a nudge in one direction. I didn't create a poll for this because I want to see reasons, not just votes. Here's the list:

Forbidden - Forbidden Evil
Mekong Delta - Mekong Delta
Voivod - Nothingface
Kreator - Coma of Souls

Please tell me which album is the best, in your opinion, and why.

If you had included The Music of Erich Zann or Dances of Death instead of Mekong Delta's self titled, this would have been much harder, although the s/t is of course awesome- as is Forbidden Evil. Never got into Voivod for some reason, what can you do?

But the answer for me is an obvious Coma of Souls.

First reasons first- three of the best riff sets in thrash. just check out Material World Paranoia, that awesome riff set at the end "Promise of a better future is a lie!" The end of Terror Zone "oh god I'm all alone, oh nooooooooooo"- and then of course, the opening riff of When the Sun Burns Red; these kind of riffs you just don't top.

And then thats not taking into account the rest of the album. Everything is perfectly done on this album, from the melodocism of Terror Zone to Mille's vocals, which have never been better. Excellent fast paced riffs abound, slower sections are very well done, and you headbang like a madman the whole way through. Coma of Souls is in my top three thrash albums, no doubt about that.

Now, this is the best album out of that list, but I wouldn't mind a Mekong Delta or Forbidden review either- people generally know Kreator where they don't know those bands, and if you want to classic them, thats fine by me.

Chalice of Blood and Through Eyes of Glass are two killer songs on Forbidden's album :dio:

then again i'm not much of a fan of the other 3, so..

My copy of The Music of Erich Zann was one of many CD's stolen from me a couple of years ago in one of the darkest days of my life. The following was stolen from my car: a 200-CD zip case full of metal albums, 2 electric shavers with dead batteries, and a case of Ice Mountain bottled water. Obviously the work of criminal masterminds.

I haven't gotten around to replacing Erich Zann yet, but I agree that it's better than the s/t. I still have yet to hear Dances of Death.

Dances Of Death is the best IMO, about the reviews, Coma Of Souls would be my choice here but i would also like to read your review on Forbidden Evil and Nothingface.

Coma Of Soul is one of the best thrash albums ever and IMO the best from Kreator, the riffs are superb (listen to the tittle track at 37 secs :dio: ) and the leads are fantastic, Frank Blackfire was an amazing guitarrist (he also played on Persecution Mania and Agent Orange) and he shows it on this album, and other thing: People Of The Lie!!!!! :dio: this song just owns your soul, really if you dont headbang while listening this album youre dead. MRs is empty without this review.

BTW: where is my Pagan Altar review!?

Have patience, my friend. :)

I don't want to put a timetable on it, but it will get done. Filling in the doom holes in the review catalog (of which there are many) is one of my top priorities.

I vote Kreator. Whether or not it's the best is dependant on my mood... but it definately has had the greatest impact of any of those. I think I like Pleasure to Kill the best from Kreator overall, but Coma of Souls has these "holy shit" moments. To compare it to PtK, rather than a steady stream of ass-kicking, it's like a punch in the face, then time to get up off the ground, and then a backhand knocking you back over.

It's had a serious impact on my own music-writing style; when I'm trying to write something heavy I play Coma of Souls riffs (along with Exodus) to get myself in brutality mode. Not that that's a good reason to review it over others because it's a personal thing.

To keep it fair, I will add that I'm unfamiliar with Nothingface. I actually find myself listening to Twisted into Form more than Forbidden Evil, for some reason it's stuck with me more. Maybe because I heard it first, I dunno.

Mekong Delta's awesome but I kind of have to be in the right mood. I'm always in a Kreator mood.

Coma Of Souls is my favourite thrash album, second only to Rust In Peace. It's the obvious choice for me too.

I'd go with Coma Of Souls, personally.

Forbidden gets my vote coz it's the only band out of those that I dig and Forbidden Evil is a great album.

But if you like them all equally and are so indecisive, you should just go through them alphabetically...

Well, I plan on reviewing them all eventually. I guess I just figured all things considered, that you guys would be the best tiebreaker.

My vote goes to Coma Of Souls too, simply because it's one hell of a classic. :dio:

The Music of Erich Zann is quite possibly the greatest metal album title I've ever heard of.
