Seeing as to how God Hates Us All got a rather lukewarm response a long time ago, I was wondering if Diabolus... would fair any better being that opinions for it seem to be pretty much the same.

Quite frankly, I like this album a lot. Sure, it's more groove-oriented than earlier Slayer albums, and it does have some industrial/nu-metal leanings. Nonetheless, the songs are catchy and enjoyable - c'mon, South Of Heaven was also "catchy" and nobody complains about it. Three of these songs even rank as some of my favorite Slayer songs (namely Bitter Peace, Perversions Of Pain, and Scrum). So what does everybody else think?

Absolute, unmitigated shite.

I wanted to cry the first time I heard this album.

I'd rather kiss Ratzinger's feet than listen to this album again.

The only good song "Scrum" is about a fucking Rugby pile-up. Nuff said.

Awful, awful album. Not quite as awful as the abomination that follows it, but awful nonetheless.

KATHY!! :dio:

Also: Heh heh heh, the album seems to be taking the tanking it deserves. Honest to God, I wanted to cry.

Miss, indeed. But Slayer's discography is pretty much hit or miss as far as I'm concerned. Some great and some truly awful one's.

If by "miss" you mean "complete piece of shit that has one mediocre song and which I want to light on fire" then yes, its a miss.

Oh man, if I (the poll administrator) hadn't voted "Hit," this probably would've been the first shut out poll I'd ever seen.

I like how he put "the poll administrator" in his post.

This album is horrible, I was actually excited before I bought this. But then I thought about it, and was scared about spending money on it. Nonetheless I bought it, and what a waste of money and then time. It sucks. I don't even like Scrum.

The album opens with the obligitory thrasher Bitter Peace. This song fucking rips like there's no tomorrow. After this we get seven tracks of slower, boring, nu-metal tinged industrialized songs. Finally Scrum comes around. Too bad it's the shortest song on the album. The next track is another throw away. The album closes with Point which is a great song. Pure Slayer. So let's see. Three good songs vs. eight songs that suck. Yeah, this is a big miss. Too bad, Bitter Peace, Scrum, and Point would have made for a kickass ep.

I can't vote, it's somewhere in the middle for me. I've heard both much better and much worse.

This is like the most indicative poll that was ever created in MR.

Fuck me, this is a rant I've wanted ever since I bought this record. I remember listening to the album for the first time all those years ago (hazy, Scooby Doo flashback ensues...)

When Bitter Peace, started off, I had a smile on my face, as the intro is menacing and beefy and when the song kicks in it's looking [sic] good. Unfortunately, the song gets a bit dull & repetitive towards the end and those drums sound like they need to be tightened up a bit, ah well, could be worse...

Fuck me, what is this shit? All of a sudden I'm checking my Stereo so see if SOAD's first album hasn't been put in there. Isn't that song 'Sugar' by System? Nope, it's still Slayer and my smile is upside down and into frown. What the Fuck? Are they taking the piss? Why do their guitars sound so, so Slipknot? So basic? So muddy? Most of all, Tom's Voice. Fuck me, What have they done with Tom's Voice?

I won't go too much into depth with the rest of my reaction, but 'Love To Hate' became my personal most hated Slayer song ever and the CD was stopped by the time 'In the Name of God' reared it's ugly head.

Ok, admittedly, when I dared to try the album again Scrum and Point weren't bad, but damage done by that point. I forgave Slayer for the lazy approach of 'Undisputed Attitude', I thought 'Divine Intervention' was inconsistant and mediocore in part, but still Slayer enough to be good, but 'Diabolus' was when Slayer stopped being my 'all-time' favourite band.

I guess a simple THIS ALBUM IS FUCKING SHIT would have sufficed, but it actually hurt me to hear this abysmal excuse for 'Thrash Metal'.
