Ratos de Porão, the legendary Hardcore/Thrash band from Brazil, were one of the finest acts of the genre and a major influence for the Brazilian thrash scene, formed in 1981 this guys played in a style that reminds of bands like D.R.I. , M.O.D. , S.O.D. and other three letter bands (in fact Ratos de Porão are also known as R.D.P.), with lyrics mostly on portuguese although they did release a couple of albums in english, this band is something that is not to be missed by fans of the genre.

Here are some Mp3 from their 1989 album Brasil (Brasil has portuguese lyrics but they also release it with English lyrics under the name "Brazil")

Ratos de Porão - Amazônia Nunca Mais
Ratos de Porão - Farsa Nacionalista
Ratos de Porão - Porcos Sanguinários

Definitely a good recommendation!

Where are all the "thrash" fans when people suggest stuff like this? Too busy pretending, I guess.

I never thought of them as thrash ... punkish hardcore would fit better I guess. Here in Brazil they're barely known, everyone just knows João Gordo (lead singer) because he does some TV shows in MTV, mostly interviewing stuff, all of them quite lame because he thinks saying curse words by the thousands is funny. But he is indeed a smart guy.

By the way, that album cover rules. It sums up Brazil very well.

Alot of their riffs are totally thrash, but the hardocore/punk sound is always present thats why i reffer to them as Hardcore/Thrash, actually Crossover would be more fitting, but i really cant argue with the hardcore label, they definitely have a hardcore sound.

BTW, do you consider D.R.I. to be thrash?
