At the Gates won the other poll so they will go up against Dark Tranquillity. ![]() |

I'll go Dark Tranquillity simply because the only album I really like by ATG is SOTL where as I like all DT abums. |

ATG for me. I like DT, but not as much as In Flames and At the Gates. Not enough memorable tracks IMO. |

I'm kind of torn since I think At The Gates are more consistent songwriters, but DT have had a more consistent career, but a lot of meh songs. ps - Arsis are the best melodeath band ever. Or Carcass... or maybe Death |

Dark Tranquillity lack intensity and passion. It's solid, catchy, original, and even outstanding... but At The Gates is more. |

Those are the last things DT is missing. noodles, you're kind of new to this metal thing, aren't you? Death isn't melodeath. |

Lacking itensity and passion ? are you frickin insane!? they got loads of that ! To me At the Gates is good but never grabbed me as deep as DT has. DT has never released a single bad album and they keep on impressing me release after release. Stane is in my opinion a better vocalist than Lindberg with LOADS of intensity and passion! |

As much as I like ATG, DT made Character so they win my vote. |

Come on, dude! This is 2006 where Wikipedia makes things fact! Chaos A.D. is a nu-metal album. Earth Crisis are a metalcore band. Machine Head have always been nu-metal. Avenged Sevenfold is power metal, and Death is melodic death metal. |

Well, they don't play Gothenburg, but Death's later albums has a lot of elements that I've considered melodic death metal (eg. having melody and playing death metal lol). And they sound about as close to Dark Tranquillity or At The Gates as Arsis or Carcass - Heartwork does, and those are called melodeath. Being Swedish and ripping off Iron Maiden aren't my main prerequisites for the genre ![]() |

Dark Tranquility, I agree with Eyesore. But if Noodles and Wikipedia are right (I don't think so) the best melodeath band is, of course, the mighty Death. |

I can't decide, they sound too different for me to make a proper comparison. |

It's just a useless term. Whereas under everyone else's definition it signifies quite as specific way of playing, so it is a useful term. |

Death Metal + melody =/= Melodic Death Metal Melodic Death Metal =/= Death Metal (that's not an insult) For instance, the new Deicide is Death Metal with a lot of melody, but its not Melodeath. Personally I aquaint most Melodeath with Power Metal or Thrash Metal (depending on the individual band) more than much else. |

Melodeath needs to be looked at as its own sub-genre with a completely uniquely developed sound. |
