It's a serious problem. I lovez the death metal and powermetal but I just can't get in to a lot of black metal. So I need yall (and I'm looking especially to Kathy on this one) to help find me some I'll like. My favourite genre of music is tech metal, I'm obsessed with bands like Origin, Gorguts, Quo Vadis, Atheretic etc, so if you can think of something more along the black metal spectre that I could enjoy I'd love you long time. It might be a doomed cause because one of the main aspects of tech metal is awesome production value where you can hear everything thats going on, and black metal's basically the oposite, but give it a try.

Btw, I've already listened to Drudkh and Deathspell Omega and Burzum and all that stuff that gets recommended here, and though I enjoyed it, I didn't like it enough to go out and buy a CD of it, and thats what I'm looking for.

Well it's hard because like you say the values held dear to your tech bands are generally avoided like the plague in BM.

I guess it's obvious but you could try Emperor. Sounds like you're into complicated things, which is what a lot of their compositions are.

Anyway I always recommend Windir in threads like this. They have icy cold melodies which are very accessible for someone newish to the genre.

Now I can namedrop a hundred bands here, but since you like tech shit it wouldn't mean anything.

So here be some bands who know how to play their instruments pretty well like the tech bands and have good production, but not atmospheric so I don't love all of them but hopefully you will. There's no tech-black as far as I know.

Belenos - Chants De Battalie
Later Emperor (obviously)
Gorgoroth
Keep of Kalessin - Armada (there's a review here)
Sirius - Spectral Transition (especially if you like Emperor)
Absu - Tara
Anaal Nathrakh - Domine Non Es Dignus

and a few general bm recommendations

Funeral Mist - Salvation
Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God
Akercocke - Words That Go Unspoken...
And Oceans - AMGOD
Lja - Til Avsky For Livet (best Norwegian band around)
Leviathan - Tentacles of Whorror

I do like a few of the ones mentioned like Windir and Carpathian Forest and so forth. And here's the result of my search on metal-archives for technical black metal. I haven't checked them out yet, but tell me if you recognize any.

1. Amnesia (Can) Technical black metal
2. Crimson Massacre Technical Death/Black Metal
3. Darken (US) Technical Black / Death Metal
4. Delphi Technical Death/Black/Thrash Metal
5. Drottnar Technical Black Metal
6. Epic of Empyrea Technical Death/Black Metal
7. Guild of Destruction Technical Black/Death Metal
8. Infernal Vile Technical Melodic Black / Death Metal
9. Nefasta Dies Raw Black Metal (early) - Technical Black/Thrash Metal (now)
10. Sarsekim Technical Black/Death Metal
11. Slagmark Technical Black/Death metal
12. The Revenge Project Extreme/Technical Black/Death Metal with Progressive/Atmospheric Influences
13. Xapharon Technical Extreme Black Metal
14. Xipe Totec (Aus) Technical death metal with black metal elements
15. Yatrogeny Melodic/Technical Black Metal

EDIT: also, I'm listening to I am the Black Wizards by Emperor and enjoying it

In addition to what's already been mentioned:

Dragonlord - Rapture, Black Wings Of Destiny
Immortal - Sons Of Northern Darkness
Necrophobic - The Third Antichrist
Ulver - Bergtatt

I also heartily second Kathaarian's ...And Oceans recommendation. I fucking love AMGOD, and I think you'd like it quite a bit as well.

I say no, he isn't.

Dude go over to the Barbarian Wrath website and download some songs from their bands. If you don't like any of that stuff, just give up and realize you aren't meant to dig BM. I have to do that with Death Metal and bands like Into Eternity.
