Dying Fetus has become one of my favorite bands. So I was wondering if any one would go so far to say Grotesque Impalement and Destroy the Opposition are two of the best Death Metal albums of all time.

I like DF too but there are far better albums out there. Like In Their Darkened Shrines, that's as good as death metal gets for me.

Obituary - Cause of Death would take my vote. Though ITDS is of course also a top tier album.

Best Death Metal album EVER???

Damn. Probably some Nile or mid-period Death, here, although it's a wide field...

Not into DF so much.

Nile is another one of my fav bands but it will be in my cd play for only 3 months or so and will rarely find its way back. The reason why I think Dying fetus is my fav at least is because it always makes its way back to my cd player year after year. But then again I only know so many good bands. I think the first Decapitation album is also very underrated

Dying Fetus is good, but not great. Anything Death, Nile, or Vader has done slays anything DF has done.

i'll confess something here - there isn't a single death metal album taht i'll listen to back to back.

that said, my favourites are Death's "symbolic" and "human", Misery Index's "Retaliate" and Nile's Catacombs.

I'm not really into death metal, but I have yet to hear an album better than Nile's In their Darkened Shrines.

Opeth is maybe one of the best all around bands .their first 5 albums are masterpeices. I am just mad at them becuase Ghost River was a waste. But i not sure that they could be know as death metal anymore. They kinda gave it up and now are trying to go mainstream. If their next album has hardcore style lyrics in it i am done with them and will live in the past.

I really can't see that happening. That kind of Enslaved-y growl has been there since day one, and I think if he was going to do hardcore shouts he'd have done it by now. Anyway, hardly fits the music, does it?

And fixed that for you.

Cryptopsy, for GODLIKE consistancy. Nile has had falls in my opinion... At least in terms of the bands in the spot light. Another spotlight band I worship is Vital Remains.

Also, Morbid Angel... Behemoth... Actually, this is a stupid thread for me, because I'll just cycle through everything eventually. From Ingurgitate to Liturgy to Yyrcroon to Vehemence. Death metal surges through my veins, leaks out my cock, and explodes out of my ass 23/7, 1/7 being dedicated to all the other music, and the little sleep which it haunts.

:)

I basically feel like you except for the Nile part.

Nile is amazing, and they definitely have one of my votes. And the same with Behemoth.

But: Tomb of the Mutilated, anyone?

Opeth didn't really change to mainstream, just from death metal + interesting form of progressive metal to death metal + boring (Dream Theater style) form of progressive metal on Ghost Reveries/Deliverance.

My favourite death metal albums are Martyr - Warp Zone, Gojira - From Mars to Sirius, and Augury - Concealed. Or Meshuggah's I and Arsis's A Celebration of Guilt if you count those as death metal. I find straightforward death metal to be painfully boring after 2 or 3 songs.
