I was wondering what everybody thinks of this Iced Earth-released "novelty." Truthfully, I like it. The Highway To Hell and God Of Thunder covers kick ass.

Now why did I post this in the death/black/thrash metal forum and not the heavy/prog/power metal forum.....

I'm not much of a fan. It's a lackluster performance by all, if you ask me. Some tunes are really good, especially "Number Of The Beast," but others are just weak. This is sadly one of the biggest problems with covers albums, the band can't perform like it's their tune. I also like "Creatures Of The Night" and "Black Sabbath," but the rest don't do much for me.

Understandable. Though truthfully, I don't think Tribute To The Gods was intended to be anything really groundbreaking. It was just a nice "extra disk" for IE's Dark Genesis Boxed Set.

No, I don't think so either, but I still feel like it lacks a certain amount of passion of the music, so it suffers. Barlow's scream in "Number Of The Beast" gives me chills, though.

I really like this album every song is awesome, except for Dead Babies. The cover of Hallowed be thy names is awesome!

But i'm a bit of an iced earth fan boy so i would say that

I love Iced Earth, I just think it's weak. And their cover of "Hallowed Be Thy Name" pales compared to Solitude Aeturnus's cover of the same song, which to me is better than the original.

What do you think of the Glorious Burden?

I love it, but I think the production is thin and the mastering job is weak. If I put The Glorious Burden and Something Wicked... in and hit shuffle, the Something Wicked... tracks are louder than The Glorious Burden tracks, which is ridiculous! A new fan listening to those albums like that would assume The Glorious Burden came out before Something Wicked.... It's not supposed to work like that.

I've just done exactly that and i you're totally right! I never noticed that before. I'm one of those IE fans who were very disapointed by TGB, I thought it would carry on in the vein of Horror Show but it just lost all the classic Iced Earth sound, the only song i liked was Valley Forge. But i still hold hight hopes for the next record, the new Demons and Wizards was awesome and its going to continue the theme of Somthing Wicked. So thats some good news as far as I am concerned. But i'm still pissed about jon not touring in europe!!

I don't know, it took some getting used to, no doubt, but I think it's a great album. The best part is the Gettysburg trilogy. It's a monstrous track, but to fully appreciate it you MUST read the lyrics/story as the song goes on. Once you get the visuals in your head the music plays itself out perfectly to the story. It's a masterpiece in my book.

Occasional fun listen... very occasional. When I'm in the mood for it, I'll go for the original. Still, I got it as a bonus with the Dark Genesis box, so I can't complain... had I paid for it as for a regular cd I'd probably be way tougher on this album's ass.
