Just to see. It's tricky for me to choose one, but I think I can safely vote for The Olden Domain, with The Archaic Course a close second. Their worst is Epic.

Olden Domain, but it's close.

And yeah, Epic is definitely their worst.

They're all good, but "The Olden Domain" is just something else.

i voted Olden domain

why do you guys dislike epic so much, given its not really black metal any more but it is still decent enough.

Horrible clean vocals, nonsense lyrics that have nothing to do with Borknagar anymore, and the fact that songwriting has been going downhill since Quintessence.

Their next one is going to be a clean album, by the way. And if they keep Vintersorg on vox, that is going to be one album I'll avoid.

Absolute agreement. I can't stand Vintersorg clean vocals.

The clean vocals were obnoxious, but the balance between clean and dirty vocals could have worked out well in creating a nice paralell if it was of a little bit higher quality.

I think its hard to say the lyrics didn't have anythign to do with borknagar anymore. I would agree if you said they were more like Vintersorg but i don't think that makes them distinctly un-borknagar. Album to album they have made massive changes in style, some haveing worked more than others. The change in lyrical matters has been as gradual as other changes in the band.

Epic had some good elements though. I liked the keyboards in it more than their other albums and i thought the guitar work was pretty interesting. if the songs were better written it could have been great.

In regards to Vintersorg singing thenext one, hasn't he already done three? In the past vocalist have only been with the band for 3 albums then left. He probly will break this precedent though i would liek to see some new blood.

I have to agree about the songwriting, but the clean vocals didn't bother me much. I like Vintersorg's clean vocals. But the songwriting on Epic just wasn't there. Add to that the shitty production and Lazare's increasingly annoying and overbearing keys. I think Future Reminiscence was really the only song that I'd consider up the level of past acheivements.

Well, I do know what you mean, but I just appretiate the music for what it is and not really compare it. I do comapre, do not misunderstand me, but the value still remains.

Yeah, I understand. I tried to like it just for what it was as well, but it didn't grab me. I didn't mean to say that I dislike it only because it's not up the quality of the past releases. The comparison, for me, usually comes after the dissapointment.

U-hum, I suppose it's just different perspectives.

Stop behaving like a cunt. Your sarcasm is wasted on me.

The problem with Borknagar is that Vintersorg has taken it over almost completely on Epic. The lyrics are metaphysical nonsense as opposed to the utter grandeur on TOD and TAC, which both are far more Epic.

Sure, Future Reminiscence is a hell of a song, but after that the album just falls apart into shitty moments and worthwhile moments. And, sadly, the tedious stuff on the album is more prominent than the interesting passages. For me, the album is finally put to death by Vintersorg's horribly nasal vocals who are layered ten times to hide the fact that he is completely untalented.

And no, this was his second album with Borknagar. Self-titled and TOD had Garm, TAC and Quintessence had Hestnaes, and Empiricism (which wasn't that bad) and Epic had our beloved self-righteous Vintercock.

Nice one. Instead of replying to what mattered in my last post, you decided to turn into an internet warrior. The possibility of us ever encountering one another is very small (small like your... no, wait.) so I honestly have no reason to care about such petty insults. Now reply to the rest of my post - yes, the part about Borknagar.
