If you woke up one day and found out that death metal was "in" and bands like dark tranquility were the new britney spears...as in every kid likes em, they're always on TV,...YOUR PARENTS LIKE EM! And that they made no changes in their music! Whould YOU still like them??? I think most of you guys wouldn't! Because as much as you're interested in the music you're maybe even more into the "I'm against the system - I have my own world - This music is cool cause only a few of us like it - Everything popular sucks" Think about it and be objective!!!!

Would it piss u off seeing eight year olds in their school bus swinging side to side whilst singing something from your favourite band, or knowing the song you thought was so special was a billboard hit and everyone loves it too!

So?

Aaaah, man-that'd ruin my life. I mean that would REALLY fuck up everything...I'd still listen to the music and everything, but I'd have to deny it, just to stop the little fucktards who only a week ago where listening to emo testing me with their hastily gathered death metal 'knowledge'. Heads would crack.

I just listen to the music I like and I don't care who likes it besides me.. And I'm too old for teenage rebellion.

My father likes Demonoid* and some folk black. Why would I have a problem with that? Actually I think it's cool.

*I gave him the album when I realised how boring it was. I had only heard the first song when I bought it... Man was I disappointed.

well, um, I chiefly listen to 70's prog and doom metal, so I'm in more danger of everyone's parents listening to my music..

It actually wouldn't bother me if that happens. The reason i listen to metal is coz i like it. Whether it's popular or not is immaterial.

I listen to what sounds good to my ears and really do not care. I listen (as most hear do) to many genres of music, not just metal so you should jump of the sterotype that all of us are trying to be different. Hell... I am going to sit down and watch American Idol tonight even tho I dont really dig modern pop American radio at all!

Seeing how I grew up in the 80's, when Metal was popular, no it wouldn't. Knowing you listen to it might change my mind though.

If it means that the other DJs who are forced to review metal albums for my school's radio station would stop writing such stupid shit, I'd be all for it. Though it would mean that I wouldn't get to review as many (since it's technically not my job in the first place), or get as much of the free stuff that promoters send us, so that would make me kind of sad.

if you're listening to it because it's not that popular, then you're already doing it for the wrong reasons.

that "it's popular, thus, it's shit" mentality is total BS.

i for one wouldn't mind singing along to, say, "the trooper" (it's a "sing along" kinda song, at last to me) or "master of puppets" in a school bus, if i rode one.

Let's be honest here. Most of us wouldn't be into metal this much if it was very popular. It's one of the main reasons I started it, to be different than most people, right now it has changed and I don't mind popular music that much, but metal being so underground and distant and evil and shit is one of the reasons that got my interest. I'm sure it is like that for a lot of people.

if anything it would have driven me away..

i guess it depends on your mentality (mainstream vs underground) back when you first got into metal.

No, because then I'd know that people appreciate good music.

And we can't have that.

Nah, I think I could still manage to rant about my straw-man "impressionable and stupid passive music listeners" even if we shared the same taste. Consistency is the last refuge of one who's given up adapting..

Well Tool fans seem to deal with it by arguing about what a real Tool fan should think, so I could still do that right?

RIGHT!?

There will be always bands, bands that people are just not smart enough to understand them; and that will increase. Noodless has a very good point as well!
