It has been about a year since I first started listening to black metal, so I just wanted to share what great black metal projects this site has brought into my life. These are my top ten black metal albums (so far);

Windir - Arntor
Forest of Fog - Nebelhymnen
Drudkh - Autumn Aurora
Ulver - Bergtatt
Windir - 1184
Forest of Fog - Rabenflug
Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Old Man's Child - The Pagan Prosperity
Woods of Ypres - Against the Seasons
Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk

Xasthur should be in there too, but I have only heard a split album with Nortt. Recommendations would be great.

Are there any other n00bs who wish to share their list? Or even someone who has been listening to black metal for the majority of their metal days?

I'm pretty sure the only black metal I own is:

Twilight Ophera - The End Of The Halcyon Age
Moonspell - Anno Satanae (Demo)
Daemonarch - Hermeticum (which is Moonspell gone black metal)

I quite like each of them.

I'm a n00b who really got my collection rolling last year around this time.

Taake - Nattestid
Nargaroth - Rasluka II
Ildjarn - Strength and Anger
Mutiilation - Remains...
Lunar Aurora - A Haudiga Fluag/Paysage...
Velvet Cacoon - Genevieve/Northsuite
Drudk - Autumn Aurora
Godkiller - The Rebirth Of The Middle Ages
Draugar - Weathering the Curse
Baptism - Wisdom and Hate/Morbid Wings of Sathanas
Bekhira - L'elu Du Mal
Toil - Demo 3 and 4
Burzum - Hvis/Filosofem
Spear of Longinus (thrash) - TYONS and Nada Brahma
Alcest - Le Secret
Noenum-Black Esoteric Evangelium
EDIT: Forest - Forest

And then the albums I had before Misha jumpstarted my interest in BM...
Ulver - Nattens
Graveland - Creed of Iron
Woods of Ypers - Allure...

Those are the albums I've REALLY enjoyed, not the complete collection of BM I've obtained. I may be forgetting a multitude of them, too.

Hell yeah. I like Rotting better. Speaking of black thrash, Sextrash "Sexual Carnage" may be the most wanted Black thrash album on my list right now.

All right. I am not a black metal fan. Keeping in mind that I have listened to many of the "classics," like Burzum, Immortal, Darkthrone, etc... and even a newer band or two that has recieved high praise (Myrddraal), and knowing my thrashy tastes, does anybody have any reccomendations for a black metal band they think I might enjoy, or am I a lost cause?

Baptism - Wisdom and Hate
Vlad Tepes - March to the Black Holocaust
Bekhira - L'elu Du Mal

They won't be immediate favorites. They'll work you over, though. Baptism is some of the best I've heard to this day. Vlad Tepes has that raw, AWESOME riff, awesomeness, combined with some of the most original and heart thumping solos you'll ever come across. Also, you might wanna try this band Quintessence, who has members of Sauron. I haven't heard it yet, but they have an album, and I've been meaning to look into it.

You aren't a lost cause. You just need your thrashy elements.

Well, my black metal listening got started in June, but I really haven't listened to as much as I should:

Emperor-In the Nightside Eclipse
Burzum-Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Ulver-Nattens Madrigal (goddamnit this is good!)
Mayhem-De Mysteeriis Dom Sathanas ((Fuck, I don't know what it's called, mp3s anyway)
Emperor-Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk-Whilst I have heard (imo) a lot of BM bands, my list of full albums is short and limited to the classics. It will expand.

I couldn't possibly post all my favourite bm here so here's my humble recommendations for you guys:

Nobody mentioned Deathspell Omega - Si Monvmentvm... Get it people, it's as good as black metal gets, thrash and death fans can start with Kenose.

Also thrash fans should try these awesome black/thrash bands:
Destroyer 666 - Phoenix Rising
Aura Noir - Black Thrash Attack
Sarcofago - I.N.R.I (Yeah Otakon)
Spear of Longinus - Nazi Occult Metal
Witchery - Restless and Dead

and if you guys are interested in bm get some Darkthrone already, ABiTNS is a good start.

I should thank the lich lords for getting me into Burzum. you fucking rule. Ulver too, and Drudkh.

I made my own way to black/doom stuff like Beatrik, Woods of Belial, Forgotten Tomb ayayayayayaya but I wouldn't have if I hadn't heard the classics first.
