I just started to get into opeth and i was wondering if still life is good. I own ghost reveries and couldnt find a review of it on this site or www.metalreview.com so could anyone recommend it |

It's one of their best, together with Morningrise and their acoustic album Damnation. Get those three in that order, then explore their other albums. |

Agree with Slayer that Morningrise and Still Life are the two best, but I'm not sure that Damnation is really worth getting unless you much prefer the mellow bits... After those two I would got for Orchid or Blackwater Park, depening on whether you prefer early or mid period. |

Still life is an awesome album, but i listen to Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation, and Ghost Reveries more than i do Still Life. |

Its true Opeth didnt change thier music, and i find that the keybords do fit really well in the band. And its kinda also hard to think how Opeth can change, its very clear that they are only focused on their music and not money or record deals. If they wanted to turn to nu metal or whatever you think they would turn to, they would have done it a looong time ago. |

Except for the blatant MetalCORE breakdowns in The Grand Conjuration, I agree with you. That song stuck out like a sore thumb when they played it live. It really is quite different. The rest of Ghost Reveries is fine, but TGC is a blatant attempt at radio play. |

I've just begun to like Morningrise although the rest of their stuff still sounds a bit boring. The acoustic parts really give spirit to the songs but I'm not a big fan of the death metalish side of their music. Morningrise has some great melodies, Black Rose Immortal being one of my favorites. |
