This album has been staring me in the face when ever i walk into the record stores. It has "Black Metal" on the cover. I know some of these recording companies don't put the exact genre on the album(eg: Carcass - Heartwork(Grindcore) , Crematory - Believe(Death Metal)) , but still, since i like all genres equally and have no hassles with industrial metal, I just needed to know what genre this album is and most importantly, is it worth picking up. Somebody told me it was pop  . Just a brief about the album, like if it has harsh vox or whether there is more music than vox etc that can let me know wat to expect will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Din't know where to post it, so posted it under the extreme metal forums since that's what the record company has classified the album as

Actually you should've posted it somewhere in the Dark/Gothic category, but it's not metal anyway. It's ambient, but not very minimalistic (as are e.g. Mortiis's early works), with gothic influences and with clean vocals (male and female). For me - very enjoyable music. I love everything up to The Stargate and everything after it (though I haven't heard The Grudge). I suggest you try Crypt of the Wizard, it's his most easy-to-get-into album.

Thanks for the info. Think i'll pick it up. At present only The Stargate is available. Will check that out.

It's somewhat more accessible than his earlier works; personally, I like it a lot.

Ok. Picked it up. Sounds like an opera :? . Atleast it's not rap  . Anyway, can't say i wasn't warned. Think this is the kind of stuff i would listen to occassionally. I neither hate it, nor enjoy it that much. Just something i would like to play in the background on occassions.

The Grudge is quite good industrial-pop, if you like NIN, Skinny Puppy etc you'll probably get something out of it.

It's all about atmosphere, you need to be relaxed and concentrate on the music when you listen to it. It's good background music alright, but if you manage to get a bit more into the spirit of the record you may get some great emotional kicks.

I like it, but it sounds too repetitive and underdeveloped at points; the title track is my favourite by far. I enjoy The Smell Of Rain more, it's catchier and really well done. Then again, my tastes vary a lot, so...

The last half of the Grudge is far too quiet when compared to the beginning. Agreed w/ best song, and have been looking for Smell Of Rain for a while now, good to hear it's better.

The Smell of Rain, I enjoyed. Sounds more like New Order than anything else.

The Grudge, however, is a steaming pile of crud.
