 Post subject: is Trivium thrash?
PostPosted: Thu Oct 06, 2005 11:43 am
I've had 'Ascendancy' for a few months and I think that it is thrash, and has plenty of good thrash riffs, albeit with some hardcore influence. I am curious to know as to what you guys think of them. Are they a thrash band or just another metalcore copycat? I hardly think theyre worthy of being called 'metalcore' but then again I don't care what genre good music is as long as it's GOOD. And 'Ascendancy' is bloody good! On a totally unrelated note, does anyone know any good file-sharing programs (not BearShare, LimeWire,KaZaa or WinMX)?

No, they are not fucking thrash. They are metalcore, but they steal lots of old Metallica and Testament riffs.

And Ascendancy is lousy.

Damn fucking straight. Trivium is shitty metalcore. Not thrash. Nowhere near thrash.

Ascendancy is decent. Otherwise I agree.

They are not metalcore. If this album came out in 1987 reactions would be completely different. It is a mix of traditional metal and thrash. The vocals kill it, though, and are more metalcore than not, but musically this band is NOT metalcore.

Thats true, if it came out in 1987 everyone would have just laughed at them and they would never have achieved anything near the popularity they have now. Trivium is definitely not a mixture of traditional metal and thrash.

I'm sorry, but that was a terrible question. Trivium is metalcore garbage.

Trivium are not metalcore in anyway whatsoever! If vocals place a band in the metalcore genre, then fine, whatever, they're metalcore, but musically they are not at all. And no way would anyone have laughed at them had they come out in 1987! No way. It's so easy to say that now, but it is untrue.

There is no hardcore in Trivium, it's not there. The same goes for Shadows Fall, who also get lumped into the metalcore genre. They're not metalcore. Hardcore is the key ingredient in metalcore. Metalcore is not prog metal, or power metal, its genre lines are clearly defined. Trivium does not belong in the metalcore genre.

Shadows Fall def. have some hardcore in them. Listen to "The Power Of 1 And 1" or "I and I", whichever it's supposed to be. Breakdowns, group shouting, etc etc.

Breakdowns and group shouting do not define hardcore. Listen to the new Hypocrisy, plenty of breakdowns on that album and it's not hardcore. I grew up listening to hardcore, Strife, Judge, Earth Crisis, etc...I don't see any resemblence with Trivium or Shadows Fall. If it's there, it's very minimal. These band are 98% metal...at least!

The difference between Trivium and Shadows Fall is that Shadows Fall is good. And they definitely have some hardcore influence in there.

there's no way I'm accepting a definition of thrash from someone who likes Kittie

your constant impassioned defenses of incredibly tedious, mainstream bands is starting to get a little too precious

Call Shadows Fall whatever you want; I'll stand firm with my opinion that they play this genre called "Absolute Crap".
