Post subject:  Rate The Band - Abigor

I think that Abigor were one of the greatest black metal bands. They were heavy, yet they also sounded somewhat melodic and uesed keyboards without sounding cheesy like Dimmu Borgir. What do the rest of you think of Abigor? What would you rate them as a band?

I prefer their old efforts like Orkblut - The Retaliation; by the way I understand they've disbanded and that Stefan Fiori is now on Graveworm; is this correct?

Great band, I really like Nachthymnen, and the other album of them that I own is ok too: channeling the quintessence of satan. nachthymnen gives me the nemesis divina feeling...

Yeap. But Graveworm are terrible.. stay away from them. And Virus 666 who did most of the work in Abigor, started a band named "Hellbound" I haven't heard any (yet) but I'm sure its awesome.

No offense, but lose the image in the signature. I look at enough banner ads and it kills the loading time of my page.

Abigor is a good band. I prefer their older material as well, more melodic.

Please help me to understand ... you renounced melody in black metal in another thread. Now, in this one you start a poll for Abigor and talk about them being melodic.

Melody as in Melodic Black Metal bands, bands that rely on melody. Abigor are 'melodic' but they, like Satanic Warmaster, don't sound cheesy like other black metal bands that try and sound melodic.
Please tell me you can tell the difference between Abigor and a band like Agathodaimon. And while Abigor might be somewhat melodic nobody, anywhere, would say they are anywhere near melodic enough to be labeled as 'melodic black metal.'
See? It's all about balance..

Replace 'best USBM bands' with 'only USBM bands that intelligently adheres to the anti-Christian image for more than shock value,' and you'll get my opinion.

Plus, they kick ass. I prefer Homecoming's March to Battle's Clarion.

I agree, but my all time favorite USBM album has to be Heaven in Flames by Judas Iscariot; also Leviathan's Tentacles of Whorror is amazing.

I could be completely off-base here but I seem to remember he had a problem with Judas Iscariot becoming too popular. I could have imagined reading that though.

On a side note, he asked to have Judas Iscariot taken off of www.metal-archives.com because he did not want any prescence of Judas Iscariot on the Internet.

Well that's what happens when you have an excellent band. Too bad, I really liked JI.

Anyway, thanx for the post Crims.
