Which metal genre does Sepultura's Arise fit in:Death metal, thrash metal,etc..?And what about the other albums(Beneath the Remains,Schizophrenia,Chaos AD,etc..)?

what i think is the first the first death metal album (correct me if i'm wrong), Possessed's "seven churches", came out before Morbid Visions, but still i think MV is a thrash metal album.

BNR and Arise are thrash, even if it's aggressive and with harsh vocals, to me calling that death metal is like calling Kreator or Sodom death metal.

Chaos AD was like a half-punk half-metal mostly-shit album :P (refuse/resist, territory and another track or two are the decent ones).

Arise is Sepultura's best album IMO, along side Roots. I'd call it thrash metal just with harsher vocals. Same with Beneath The Remains. Everything before that...i'd say they have a foot in each genre, combination of heavy thrash with death influences, especially with vocals. Troops Of Doom is a wicked track

Roots IMO sucks. Nation, Chaos AD, Arise and MV are my favorite ones.

2.Chaos Ad
3.MV
4.Nation

Roots, Nation and everything after Arise suck. Arise is a thrash album. Here's the hierarchy:

1. Beneath the Remains
2. Schizophrenia
3. Morbid Visions
4. Arise

Its hard to say, but I definately think Arise is more in the thrash metal camp. I think of Arise as what Metallica should have sounded like.

That's not the question.
The question is:are they Thrash or death metal?

By the way,all you need is sex!!!

i see it as thrash metal that is leaning towards death...definitely some elements of death, but the thrash portion is much too strong for it to be considered death instead of thrash

Who knows. Best album cover of its time tho.
As a joke we used to go around school saying that "we had a rise in our pants"...........then we would proceed to pull out the cassette tape.

Arise and Beneath The Remains are thrash albums. The only thing really "Death Metal" about them is the gruffer vocal style of Max Calavera. And even those aren't full on death metal grunts. Schizophrenia I haven't really heard before. Chaos AD is more of a groove-metal album with some thrash/death metal influences. Basically an extension of what Pantera did one year earlier with Vulgar Display Of Power. Ditto to Roots.
