Post subject: | The BURZUM thread |
1. What is your favorite Burzum album? (If you don't like Burzum, change this question to why you don't like Burzum, and what about the music you dislike.) Reasons you like it? 2. Favorite Song? 3. Favorite lyrics? 4. Favorite Burzum cover? 5. How would you rate the discography as a whole, and then how would you rate each seperate album. 6. What are your opinions of the composer, Varg, as a musician? Do you feel he is talented, a good songwriter, both? 7. Do you sense any NS nature in the lyrics? If so, at what album do you see this, and does it spread through the rest of the discography. (This is for anyone who has a nasty opinion of the music based on Varg's NS lit, and a chance to try and prove this influence in his music exists.) |

1. What is your favorite Burzum album? Reasons you like it? Filosofem, for the amazing atmosphere.. even though Rundgang um die Tranzsendentale.. is basically a 25 minute loop, the songs before it set the piece up so well that it's compelling listening.. 2. Favorite Song? Dunkelheit. 3. Favorite lyrics? When night falls, she covers the earth in impenetrable darkness.. 4. Favorite Burzum cover? Dunkelheit by Reverend Bizarre.. I know my answers have been one-sided so far. ![]() 5. How would you rate the discography as a whole, and then how would you rate each seperate album. Let's see.. Works of Burzum - 87/100 then.. Burzum/Aske - 89/100 Det Som Engang Var - 92/100 Hvis Lyset Tar Oss - 93/100 Filosofem - 99/100 Dowdy Boulders - lol/100 Hliðskjálf - 80/100 6. What are your opinions of the composer, Varg, as a musician? Do you feel he is talented, a good songwriter, both? He's no more than competent with the instruments, but his creative force was great and still influential. His songwriting is a great example of minimalism in metal.. 7. Do you sense any NS nature in the lyrics? If so, at what album do you see this, and does it spread through the rest of the discography. Nope, it all seems to be concerned with nature, fantasy and pagan themes to me. cheers |

1. What is your favorite Burzum album? (If you don't like Burzum, change this question to why you don't like Burzum, and what about the music you dislike.) Reasons you like it? Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. It was the most complete, in my opinion. Had the best atmosphere, great vocals, a beautiful cover, and not one bad track. 2. Favorite Song? Det Som En Gang Var. 3. Favorite lyrics? I don't like the lyrics. 4. Favorite Burzum cover? If I remember correctly, Aborym did an awesome cover of Det Som En Gang Var on Fire Walk With Us. Brilliant. 5. How would you rate the discography as a whole, and then how would you rate each seperate album. As A Whole: 94 / 100. Burzum: 89/100 Aske: 92/100 Det Som Engang Var: 97/100 Hvis Lyset Tar Oss: 100/100 Filesofem: 97/100 Balder's Dod/Daudi Baldurs: 10/100 Hlidskjalf: 75/100 6. What are your opinions of the composer, Varg, as a musician? Do you feel he is talented, a good songwriter, both? I feel that he wants to make his art, and will not let little things such as having no talent or ability to play his instruments whatsoever get in the way. 7. Do you sense any NS nature in the lyrics? None that I can see, but most of the lyrics are in Norweigan anyway. If it's there, it's subtle: nothing as silly and overt as Graveland compositions like 'White Hand's Power.' |

1- Filosofem. Because it has an unbelievable atmosphere. 2- Dunkelheit 3-When night falls, she cloaks the world in impenetrable darkness 4- I haven't heard a decent one yet. They all seem to lack the atmosphere. 5-for Burzum as a whole : 100/100 Filosofem 100/100 Aske: 98 /100 Hvis Lyset Tar Oss : 95/100 Det Som Engang War : 95 / 100 6- I believe he is an unbelievably talented songwriter and a great influence to all Bm bands. 7- Who can ever sense NS in his music ? It's non existent. |

I give it 25/100 or like Lizardtail well said LOL/100 ![]() Ya, dude... I understand not liking Burzum (I don't) but considering that thats supposed to be their worst album, thats like me listening to Endorama by Kreator and proclaiming that all Kreator sucks. If even I've listened to Det Som En Gang Var and Filesofem, you, as an actual black metal fan, probably should too,. |

1. So far I reckon Filosofem, followed by Hlidskjalf. 2. Aaaah I suppose Dunkelheit. Predictably. 3. Ummm... dunno many of them... prbably the ones quoted in deathkvlt's sig. 4. I'm going to purposefully misinterpret this question and say that my favourite Burzum cover art is Balder's Dod. 5. As a whole very good with one conspicuously weak link. Too hard for me to rate each one individually... I change my mind way too often. 6. A very individual and distinctive composer. Just about adequate as a musician, except for his cack handed keyboard wankery on BD. 7. No, people only read that significance into it after they hear about his beliefs. |
