Germany has produced some amazing metal bands over the years but the Unholy Triumvirate of Kreator, Destruction and Sodom stand as three of it's finest exports. But which band stands alone atop the Teutonic thrash mountain top? Does Kreator's long term quality and consistency best the vicious proto-death onslaught of Sodom or the riff laden devastation of the mighty Destruction? Is there one particular album or perhaps a string of exceptional releases that puts one band over the other two? What say you, thrashers?

Voted Destruction as I know them the best, but know I have work to do in catching up on Sodom and mid-period Kreator.

You obviously only meant thrash metal, so I voted Kreator.

Sodom are the most consistent so I'll vote for them. If we were to compare the best albums of all three Kreator would get my vote.

But I went with Destruction.

Randomly picked Kreator since I value Kreator and Destruction more or less equally. Although I think present-day Kreator is a hair better than present-day Destruction.

Tankard are shit, boring 4th-5th tier material.

Kreator takes first easily, with Sodom in the dust behind them. Destruction are ok

No way, man! Tankard are fucking bad-ass. Why do you hate fun so much?

I agree with the order but I put Sodom much closer to Kreator than that. Mille and Co. are definitely #1 but merciless thrash assaults like Agent Orange, M-16 and Persecution Mania all showcase Sodom's ability to equally destroy necks alongside any thrash band in the business. Destruction have put out some really killer records but they've also dropped some pretty awful ones as well.

Actually, only one was really awful: The Least Successful Human Cannonball.

Throw in both the Destruction and Them Not Me EPs with Cannonball. Cracked Brain had some good stuff on it but everything else from the Neo-Destruction era was pretty bad.

You put Schmier on Cracked Brain and it's another Destruction classic... Even without him it's a great thrasher. Was the album that got my roommate into Destruction.

Average, not awful.
Anyway, in my opinion, Destruction was seldom above average. Tankard are better.

I haven't listened to enough Tankard to say one way or the other but Destruction have put out more than a few exceptional albums. Everything up til' Schmier left the band in '89 was pretty great with Eternal Devastation and Infernal Overkill being bonafide classics. But since then their output has been really mixed ranging from excellent (The Antichrist) to okay (Inventor of Evil) to poor (anything with Thomas Rosenmerkel).

Speaking of Tankard, I love all their 80's stuff but haven't heard much of anything past Stone Cold Sober. I own Thirst but is there anything else from then on that I should invest in?

Zombie Attack
Chemical Invasion
The Morning After
The Tankard
Disco Destroyer
Kings of Beer
B-Day
Beast of Bourbon
The Beauty and the Beer
Thirst
A Girl Called Cerveza

The other albums have good songs, but those are my favourites. For me, they were at their peak in the late 90s early 2000s. I know that may sound blasphemous to some, but those four albums (Disco to Beast of Bourbon (even Beauty and Beer too)) were some of their best stuff. But my favourite album is Chemical Invasion. That album is intense and fast and just all kinds of awesome.

At this point I'm not playing favorites, but Kreator will have special place for me always.

You have poor taste :P , not my problem big guy.

Tankard are nothing to even Destruction, and that's saying a lot.
