I dont consider myself a metalhead because even though i listen to a lot of metal bands like Opeth, Bloodbath, edge of sanity etc, i also love bands like the beatles, led zeppelin, queens of the stone age, and other lighter stuff. but the thing is, no other genre is as diverse as metal. All punk bands sound alike. all pop singers sound like backstreet boys. but within metal there is so much diversity. Thank you for making metal. |

Thank you for making metal. Yea man.. U are right.. All punk bands sounds almost alike.. Not only punk R&B and HipHop also sound alike.. They'll make 101 remix from 1 song.. Thats bloody lame.. And their songs are fuckin pissing off.. They'll be singing bout how many times they got laid, how rich they are, how big of a gangstar they are and ect.. Its fuckin lame.. Sometimes i wonder how can people enjoy this kinda bullshit.. Thank You Metal if not for metal i think i mite be listening to crap also.. |

And I don't know how "big and popular" Schnappi and Crazy frog is in your countries but here in Sweden those fakking singles and albums is still on like top ten on many selling lists. It's insane how people can actually pay to listen to something horrible like that. I'm thinking I could be one of those people who bought regular pop-music today, if it wasn't for my step into Metal. I'll never be able to go back now, thank God (it's just a good expression, I don't believe in that stuff anyway). |

listening to genres other than metal doesn't make you a non-metalhead imo 
also, you have to realize... i bet r&b fans also think all metal sounds the same. same way they don't appreciate metal we don't appreciate r&b. there are probably loads of little sub-genres but we just can't notice it. |

I love metal too, and there is a lot of scope for imagination and variation within, but that's the same with most genres - I can't claim this for rap or country as I don't know enough about either, but every other genre can be just as innovative, even before you consider all the great bands who skillfully combine multiple genres, or even ignore the concept of them altogether! and if you're not a punk fan, check out another huge subset of music that continues to influence metal.. prog rock! most of it is more exciting and challenging than "Dark Side of the Moon." 8)

Metal is certainly one of the more complex genres. I was DJing a party on Saturday, and it had been so long since I'd been forced to listen to an entire r&b or rap song that I'd forgotten, really, what they sound like. When I played 'em, they sounded very...barren to me. Just four or so sounds over and over again under the vocals. I thought, "Where's the rest of the song? Where's the melodies and harmonies to go over and under the rhythm?" I was very happy to go home and listen to Amon Amarth. |

Well, I've never even heard of them so I guess here in the States the probably aren't enormously popular ("popular" may be but not huge). i'm without a doubt,not a 'real' metalhead for i listen to soooooo much more bands/artists than metal, i can enjoy pop rock much as long as it's the real kind and not the one day flies of mtv or sth. Metal, punk, pop rock, blues,hard rock, alt rock, prog rock, it's all fine by me. i always go berserk when someone calls me a 'closeminded hearball' because i say i listen to metal |
