While the Big Four have indeed produced some genre defining classics, they are by no means the "be all, end all" of thrash metal. Here are a few albums which deserve mention right along side Rust in Piece and Hell Awaits:

1. Heathen-Victims of Deception
2. Tankard-Chemical Invasion
3. Artillery-By Inheritance
4. Kreator-Extreme Aggression
5. Sodom-Agent Orange
6. Testament-The Gathering
7. Destruction-Eternal Devastation
8. Exodus-Bonded by Blood
9. Overkill-Ironbound
10. Sepultura-Beneath the Remains

No particular order here and not at all complete. What other unheralded thrash records deserve an emphatic horns up? Show me those lists, thrash fukks!

I know very little about thrash...but these two are favorites of mine:

Sadus- A Vision in Misery
Vektor- Outer Isolation

1.Holy Terror-Mind Wars
2.Slayer-Reign in blood
3.Sadus-Illusions/Chemical Exposure
4.Kreator-Pleasure to Kill
5.Dark Angel-Darkness Descends
6.Razor-Evil Invaders
7.Sepultura-Beneath the Remains
8.Demolition Hammer-Tortured Existence
9.Sodom-Agent Orange
10.Morbid Saint-Spectrum of death

My top ten list from the Tez forum:

Honorable mentions:

Nasty Savage-Nasty Savage
Overkill-Taking Over
Hirax-Hate, fear, power
Atrophy-Socialized Hate
Realm-Endless War
Toxik-World Circus

WTF thrash!? Darkness Descends, motherfucker. The best thrash album period.

Honorable mentions: Gammacide - Victims of Science, obvious Sepultura and Sodom albums.

I included on my list and it should be higher than Illusions, but Sadus's speed and savagery has meant more to me than Dark Angel as of late. I agree by and large that its a superior album, but this has more to do with personal preference.

Didn't see 'em, so Voivod - Killing Technology, Dimension Hatross, etc.

Also Sabbat - History of a Time to Come. Atheist and Pestilence's debut deserve a shout, too.

Flotsam and Jetsam: No Place For Disgrace

Voivod is pretty awful.

I can see Pestilence, but Atheist? Or are you just arguing Atheist's debut was thrash?

The latter, and that it was terrific - not with me on that?

Yes, it was terrific, and I guess you could call it thrash, I'll have to relisten.

I'd like to add Sodom's Tapping The Vein. One of the most underrated albums and probably their heaviest.

Atheist's debut still sounds very good, but I also still prefer Unquestionable Presence.

Sarcafago-INRI
Possessed-Seven Churches

You could argue these two are proto-death metal but I've always thought of them as just dirty thrash.

I'll also throw in some crossover releases that deserve a shout:

Agnostic Front-Cause for Alarm
DRI-Dirty Rotten LP, Thrash Zone
S.O.D.-Speak English or Die
Suicidal Tendencies- S/T, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow, Lights...Camera...Revolution (Trujillo like a mofo!)
