Been jamming out to cradle the past few days.

Which is your favorite record?

Principle of Evil, Vempire, Damnation and A Day, Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder, all were decent to good in different ways, and I've never heard a lot of their other stuff. I'd probably list Dusk and Her Embrace for being the most quintessentially Cradle album.

I hadn't heard any of them since Thornography and I've listened to the newest and it's really fucking good. Sad I slept on them recently.

Idk which one of them is my favorite but honestly they're a very consistent band for me. Always great musicians in the band.

Yeah, I can't recall listening to any of their stuff and saying 'this is horrible!'. Even if it doesn't appeal to me it sounds well done. That said, I might like them a lot better with a different vocalist.

I'd say on nostalgia factor alone, Cruelty & The Beast. But i also enjoy Damnation And A Day, Midian, and Manticore.

Midian probably, but I haven't listened to them in years. I think the problem for me is Dani Filth.

I used to be a little bit annoyed by his voice somewhat, but now I couldn't care, they just make such great music and his voice is fine for me now. V Empire he is a little bit irritating though, i'll give you that.

Awesome band.

Their early works have their moments, but for me their career begins with "Dusk...And Her Embrace" and "Cruelty and the Beast" which are just perfect as a whole.
"Median" has some weak spots but is great nevertheless.

Since then they have an enormous decline in quality, probably still good for hardcore fans, but I find no catchy or memorable at all for me. Just monotonous mediocrity...

I really like the Adrian errlandson time period myself (he was the drummer from midian-thornography.)

the last record, such as succumb to this, had some really cool parts on it as well.

Too much hate on this band IMO.

I don't think I wore that Cradle of Filth shirt ever again after that random Juggalo chick on campus said "cool shirt" to me as we were walking on campus.

Same here. Their early material is quite decent but the vocals are rather silly and moreover very annoying.

Sad really, as their compositional strength and musicianship at points are/were tremendous...but I understand what you guys are getting at completely.

The instrumentals and interludes, though only partially because of the unpleasant half quacking, half croaking all bullshit being passed off as vocals.
The instrumentals off of Damnation... in particular, always stood out to me.

The band has definitely produced some high quality music but Filth often mucks it up with said croaks and that grating scream of his. Godspeed would have been an exceptionally good record with just about any other singer.

Yeah fuck that guy. Even his wordsmithery ( ) is a bit much.

I've only ever listened to a handful of songs by Cradle and the problem I've had, based on what I've heard, is that they can't seem to write a good song from start to finish. Like a song will start off really well but then the middle part sucks, and the ending is just okay.

Again it's a small sample size for me so I could be wrong.

What have you heard Metastable? I never thought that was the problem so much as the parts when Dani is screeching just ruining whatever the momentum the song was building.
