... Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground.

Is this book worth getting?

The first half of the book is some really great stuff.

The second half devolves into a degenerate mess of this-that-and-the-other-thing. It gets really unfocused. Kinda like re-reading the first half while on speed or something of that sort.

Just go to a bookstore, and read it there. Then make your decision.

I would say it's worth getting. There's a lot of useful information in the book itself as well as reference material included in appendicies.

I thought it was fabulous... a very good book with many interviews. It's even come out in a revised edition with maybe 100 more pages -- I have the original edition and am seriously considering buying the revised edition.

The book is fairly balanced with viewpoints from both the bandmembers, scensters, as well as others with different viewpoints such as a policeman and a priest. Probably the best thing about the book are the interviews. Other than that, it is mostly nuts and bolts history with a small bit of analysis.

I ordered it through my local bookstore as a special request. It is available on Amazon.com at a discount as well.

Yeah I think I may get this off Amazon. Like most books I suppose you have to be careful to watch out for bias, sensationalism etc, but it does sound like it would be interesting/entertaining to read.

Plus, there's very few books about this source material, so it's probably worth investigating the ones that are.

i didn't like it, to be honest.

the story bit was nice but unfortunately didn't last much, and the interviews got real boring, real fast.

I'm still waiting for a BM film. "The Life Of Varg", for example.
