I've got the first two albums and both are great (I prefer Alice...).

But before buying any more of their stuff I'd like to know what it is I'm getting myself into - I know they have a reputation for being one of the patchiest bands in Metal.

So, just a quick run through of their catalogue would be nice. Just let me know which albums are Thrash, Groove, black-album style or country & western/norsecore fusion, etc.

Cheers.

Basically, the first two albums and Carnival Diabloes are the only good ones. Thats all you need to know.

Agreed, add Criteria for a Black Widow(reunion album with Randy Rampage) and your set. Stay far, far away from All For You, unless you want to hear Annihilator pathetically limp along to some Alternative Rock crap.

I have Alice In Hell, i dont like it very much, so i'll probably not bother with Never Neverland. I find the riffs kinda average, unintense, not very thrashy and the wankery too much.

I like Rampage's vocals tho, good thrash voice imo.

Being a long time Annihilator fan, that is not true. Almost all kick ass!

Well, it's your loss :? The first three Annihilator's rule the most.
I actually don't like Rampage voice that much, at least on the Criteria album. I like Aaron Randall (3rd album) who is one the BEST ever vocalist and my favorite Anni-singer!! \m/

I wouldn't check out Criteria at this point, better go with Set The World On Fire, that is if you like melodic über great vocals and great songs? not their heaviest or thrashiest, but just good <3

Here's me rundown: (quick rating: ok, good, great, classic)

Annihilator Alice In Hell 1989 - classic, ok vocals.
Annihilator Never, Neverland 1990 - classic, maybe their best, very good vox.
Annihilator Set The World On Fire 1993 - great, superb vocals <3
Annihilator Bag Of Tricks (Comp.) 1994 - ok, some stuff for the fans.
Annihilator King Of The Kill 1994 - great, Jeff sings, has good songs.
Annihilator Refresh The Demon 1996 - great, Jeff sings, has good songs.
Annihilator Remains 1997 - good, this is the only "real" departure from their classic sound, slight industrial edge, still nice.
(these last 4 Anni albums I haven't listened that much, so I can't be trusted 100% :) )
Annihilator Criteria For A Black Widow 1999 - ok, the return of Rampage was actually a miss for this album.
Annihilator Carnival Diablos 2001 - good, good vox from Joe Comeu and nice songs too.
Annihilator Waking The Fury 2002 - ok, another Comeu but this time not as great album.
Annihilator All For You 2004 - ok, new singer's kinda ok, but some of the arrangements could have been better, some nice songs...

I think Annihilator has somewhat "watered" :P down since Remains... but that has happened to many bands, like Overkill...

Still, I wait eagerly for Annihilator's new album Schizo Deluxe coming in 14.11.2005!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111 \m/
