is there anyone else here who considers the first 2 albums (below) to be the classics i do? or any thoughts on why why deicide are a crap/good band aswell...

The first 2 albums are classics indeed.
The Hoffman brothers are killer riffers and Glen Benton is one of the best vocalists in DM ever (and that is not debatable!).
The lyrics are retarded but funny as hell.

Just listened to the first album this morning. Sacrificial suicide!

I could repeat my 'Dustin Hoffman' joke, but instead I'll just say I never really got into them.

Indeed, those first two albums are Death Metal classics! Too bad the band devolved into generic crap within record time. I found "Scars of the Crucifix" used for $6 and that was still about $20 too much. It wasn't necessarily bad, just not very good either.

I liked Glen better on Vital Remains, he sounded as pure hate there, really really good vocals.

They had some pretty competant riffing, a great one here and there, even some decent solos, and solid drumming, but Deicide really doesn't do much for me. The whole satan thing is worn thin, there isn't exactly a ton of variety or incredible songwriting to be found, and Glen Benton's vocals bother me.

Deicide are ok. They do tend to get repetitive. It's not the topic with which their songs deal with. There are other bands like Immolation whose tracks are about just about the same thing, but they some how manage to keep the listener's interest. I wouldn't dismiss them entirely as a band, they have their plus points. Glenn Benton is definitely one of the best DM vocalists around. I wouldn't be able to listen to Deicide on a regular basis, maybe just throw in an album for a change.I have just two of their albums, Legion and When Satan Lives. Legion is very, very good. Planning to pick up a few more of their stuff, again for those times when i need to listen to something simple and repetetive for a change coz it can sometimes sound different.

pick up their debut, "deicide"...
i would rate it as 95/100,l every track is great, some legendary songs and the only downside is it's short length.

Their debut is really, really good and everything they did after that is/was completely unnecessary.

Downside? Half an hour to 45 minutes is the ideal length for an album!

Rarely do i come across an album longer than 45 minutes that can hold my interest all the way through.

I would much rather have an album that is too short, than an album that is too long. If it is too short, that means it was good and you wanted more. If it was too long, that means it was boring and you wanted less. Too short is still enjoyable, while too long is unbearable.

That said, the first two Deicide albums are sweet.

Um, bit late for this week's update... and I don't know if I'm available for next week, but sure, when I'm available I'd be happy to write one. I do love that album quite a bit, I just think that they never again wrote anything even approaching it.

Glenn's vox are something else on that release, eh?

oh yes...but on carnage in the temple of the damned..."you will never sin again!" that is legendary death vocals right there!

"You will die! It's been written!" That's classic stuff right there. And Dead Machine, you're right, they never even came close to that album again.

Even though I despise Glen Benton as a person (he's a fucking joke) I think that the first two albums are classics indeed. Dead by Dawn and Sacrifical Suicide are great songs.
