I don't know why so many people hate Arch Enemy, or hate the last two albums. Sure they are not as heavy and brutal as say 'Wages of Sin', but they are still good albums nonethless. I don't think they fit in with the 'melodeath' genre at present, if I were to call it anything, it'd just be metal! The Amott brothers are legendary guitarists, and all their solo's are amazing. My only real complaint is that on each Arch Enemy release with Angela Gossow on vox, her voice becomes tedious towards the end of the album as she doesn't really experiment much vocally. Overall though I think that Arch Enemy are a competent and consistent band, and as long as they don't turn into a band like Chimaira or Bleed The Sky I will continue to be a big fan of their music. Their two best albums imo are 'Anthems Of Rebellion' and 'Doomsday Machine'.

PS does Angela have a deep voice from screaming so much? that would be scary. :)

They suck.

At the Gates, The Black Dahlia Murder, and many other melodeath bands are much, much better. Why the hell would anyone listen to any Arch Enemy post-Liiva? It's all rubbish.

Burning Bridges and Stigmata are good albums, though.

i like that bit in one of their songs where a tom-laden drumfill ends a small bridge and then a heavy groove riff comes in, over which some woman starts yelling something about humanity. yeah. that one's good.

MISS.

I say hit.
Last album is a piece of shit. But anthems of rebellion was ok... i give it like 70-
But older albums like Wages of Sin, Stigmata and Burning Bridges just kick ass.

I never liked them, even back when I was into In Flames and Soilwork and stuff like that.

I like them, both Liiva- and Gossow-era. I don't know why people don't like "Doomsday Machine," it kicks ass. "Anthems" is by far their worst, but it's no "St. Anger."
And yes, they are melodic death metal. (And The Black Dahlia Murder isn't nearly as good as Arch Enemy.)

I like Doomsday Machine, despite the shredding it takes on this site. Their older stuff is much, much better though.

HIT

Hit soley because of the early albums. The solos on Stigmata (album) are beautiful).

They're taking a sort of an In Flames route. Too bad, they used to be a good band. Gossow era sucks, except for Wages of Sin.

Burning Bridges is probably one of the best Melodic Death Metal albums to ever grace my ears.

Their new stuff sucks... But since they released Burning Bridges, I can't help but voting them as a hit.

Indeed.

I love the Johan era, Gossow's is simply a disgrace.

HIT!

enemy within from wages of sin single handedly launched me into metal. and for that, they deserve a HIT.

yes the last album was somewhat awful, but it was still quite listenable. and the old albums were really good.

I like the first four albums, am not keen on Anthems and remain undecided on Doomsday Machine (I agree that its just straight-up Metal with harsh vocals).

So 4-2 (or 5-1) in their favour = Hit

Hit. I don't really see what's wrong with Arch Enemy's later music.
