Post subject:  krallice Genre/thoughts

Im not sure if there has been a thread for this already so excuse me for this thread if there was. You know its come to my attention im having a hard time putting a Genre onto this band. Sure labeling sucks but if you really had to what would you consider them to be? the have been called, black metal. progressive, avante-garde, technical, post black metal. Personally i find it hard to call them most of these. So if you all don't mind, can you tell me what you consider them and why. Also what are your Favorite songs/albums by them? personally i like the first album the most followed by the newest album. Dimentional bleedthrough to me seems to be there weakest album due to the fact none of the songs really stick out compared to songs in the other two albums. Finally my favorite all time Song by the is Energy chasms. a true metal masterpiece.

Not into this band all I've heard is the first album and dimensional bleedthrough, dimensional bleedthrough has a cool riff though.

I guess I'd call them avante-garde black metal.

To me they've always sounded like guys from progressive metal/math rock bands playing black metal, so I'd call them black metal. They're unique but not so much so that they don't fit into the genre.

I don't find anything progressive in this music. Noodles, please understand, this is NOT Black Metal. No noodles, no.

I don't get saying they're not black metal. Genre arguments are dumb.

Krallice are amazing but not Black Metal.

Funny, I think the exact opposite.

You would consider them Black Metal? I mean all the ingredients are there but I just don't get black metal vibes from their music. That holds true for a lot of modern "black metal" though, doesn't mean it's bad, just different.

I think what counts as "black metal" is broader than some of the kvlt will allow. I agree with them when it comes to deciding how good it is, however.

And I think neither. Unless you consider them to be amazingly average.

Average as compared to what? I guess you don't mean average as implying common.

I don't know, I really can't pinpoint why it doesn't connect with me. It's essentially meh-inducing music. Average is probably not the best word for it, I concede.

I haven't listened to much Krallice, but I've checked out songs from each of their albums and, like some of the USBM bands I've heard, they just seem like people who think that all Black Metal consists of is tremolo picking and shrieking.

Not trying to seem "kvlt" or anything, but from what I understand of Black Metal, it seems to be more focused on creating an atmosphere that's dark and foreboding in some manner rather than the methods used to create that sound.

In some songs Krallice is close to that, but then it goes off on some strange, uplifting tangent, returning to the darker sound maybe half a minute later. This is also another issue I have with them, because it seems like they want the Black Metal sound, but whenever they achieve it they decide they want something else.
