Grave - Soulless Bloodbath - Eaten I want more swedish death metal in the vein of these tracks. Just really heavy plodding tracks with sick riffs. Recommendations? |

bloodpet64 wrote: Dark Tranquility Neither of those links I posted were melodic death metal so scratch Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Amon Amarth, and Arch Enemy. I heard Therion's Gothic Kabbalah and it wasn't at all what I was talking about nor Opeth obv.
In Flames Amon Amarth Arch Enemy Opeth Entombed Necrophobic Therion Entombed and Necrophobic might interest me. I used to not really dig Entombed at all but I may have been listening to the wrong albums. I love the track Into Armageddon but only because Withered covered it and not really the original all too much. |

Goat wrote:  at some of Bloodpet's picks, although Entombed are gods. Desultory, Dismember, Evocation, Vomitory... does it have to be Swedish? Asphyx are brilliant, and Dutch. Hail Of Bullets! It doesn't have to be Swedish; I just associate that sound with the label 'Swedish death metal'. Figured Dismember would be mentioned. And I think a friend is a big Nihilist fan. I'll have to check out Hail of Bullets again.

Absolutely, just thought I'd mention it. Asphyx were formed the same year as Nihilist, after all, and Pestilence, another good pick if not quite what you seem to be after, were actually formed before Nihilist. All good bands, anyway. And being fair to Bloodsport, early Therion is totally death metal. |

Edge of Sanity- gods of Swedish DM! - Early stuff was more pure DM, later on it got more melodic. The Stockholm Holy Trinity: Entombed Dismember Unleashed Also Bloodbath's always good fun. Grave's good but kinda gets a bit repetitive after a while (though the same can be said of Dismember post Death Metal). |

I second Edge of Sanity, especially their Crimson II. Crimson is also very good. Also Necrophobic's Hrimthursum is a very good album or was, at the time I was listening to it, which was 4-5 years ago. |

I know I'm a douche, but Entombed's vocals turn me off, at least on Clandestine and Left Hand. Wolverine Blues I might start to like. Do people generally like Grave's album, Soulless? I could imagine people deeming it to catchy or some bullshit like that but I looove it. Into the Grave wasn't as catchy and wasn't instant love. I heard Necrophobic's Third Antichrist which turned me off of them but maybe I'll check that one out. |

This is the first forum I've encountered where people like Edge of Sanity. Even in real life I've only met 2 other guys who liked them yet the bulk of the locals were heavily into Death Metal (though the preference was brutal or tech DM). Criminally underrated band IMHO. |

Criminally underrated band IMHO. They were a great band, and highly influential. |

Criminally underrated band IMHO. Agreed. EoS were fucking great, and Crimson is the best album ever made. No exceptions. ![]() .:crast:. ps: shamless selfpromotion time: Canopy covering Twilight by EoS |

I heard Necrophobic's Third Antichrist which turned me off of them but maybe I'll check that one out. Third Antichrist is one of Necrophobic's best, if you didn't like that one maybe you shouldn't bother with them. I personally love Necrophobic though. Grave is great! Check out their 2010 album, I felt it was among the best metal albums last year. The old guys still have it. I second recomandations for Dismember and Unleashed. Edge of Sanity were a good band but too light for the criteria you mentioned in OP. You can also check out some very old and obscure stuff, like God Macabre or Liers in Wait, or the first 2 At The Gates albums. For new blood worshiping old school try Repugnant or Interment, pretty solid bands. |
