With the odious bugaboo of transcending the subgenres of metal whirring about my head at this present time of 5:30 AM. For those who have been carefully observing the metal underground, what current bands and sounds are being tweaked and mechanically fine tuned to create "the next big sound" of the extreme genres. With the fixations of either low key minimalism of funeral doom, exquisite technical mastery of tech death, and the sheer power of death and black, what cohesive force can meld these disciplines and give birth to the next sound.

I know I still owe a big thread on funeral doom (coming this summer, I promise), but I can tell you the next big sound is not coming from there.

I remember talking to you about that. I'm glad you're going through with it.

I am of the opinion that funeral doom even more so than raw bm is far too minimalist to do much else with.

I think technically dissonant stuff like Ulcerate, DsO and Portal could be the next extreme extreme-ness.

There is nothing Portal has ever done or even newer DSO, that hasn't been created by Immolation, Demilich, or Crypt of Kerberos.

Yeah, I never should have talked about it before I did it. I owe a lot of you guys something really comprehensive. It will be fun...and it will make use out of that forgotten Doom subforum.

As usual, you are horribly wrong.

Abigail Williams is not cool.

Umm Welkin Dusk kinda does some crusty black metal which is actually really good.
