What are some bands that come to mind when you think of the most repulsive black metal?

Mayhem of course!

But really when I think of repulsive I think of Leviathan... and that's about all I can think of.

Stuff like Axis Of Perdition, the aural equivalent to a nameless horror dragging itself across the floor towards you...

Nattefrost is rather repulsive. Especially on his Blood and Vomit album. Other examples were great.

The white supremacist ones. Seriously, you can argue religion, national pride or anything else, but fucking race is what they are going after? Really? When virtually all races live in the society they believe is inherently superior.

Mayhem sucks by the way. The only thing that band had was the balls to release such crap. How unfortunate crappy musicians want to copy that scene. That is the second most disgusting.

Give me good songwriting and professional production or get the fuck out.

Thank you Akercocke for not sucking and proving Black Metal can be about having talent and great songs.

Ah, seeing Adveser write about black metal is perhaps my favorite past time.

Actually I found out about them back in the Goat of Mendes days with that huge inside cover ad with the tits and all in Terrorizer, the issue that was ordered by every record store in the country because they covered Tool that issue, it was around May of 2001. I wonder if Peaceville knew that issue was going to be so heavily circulated. Pure genius if so.

It did bring a smile on my face when I saw them comparing themselves to Rush on one of those stickers on the front of the record when I got Words...

I wonder what it would sound like if you re-recorded every classic black metal album with a melodeath/metalcore production style.

I feel bad that everyone seems to have taken my comments re Mayhem in the 'worst bm bands' thread so literally. They have done some good stuff.

Every single Mayhem release has professional production.

you've only listened to dawn of the black hearts haven't you.

I listened to whatever the original band put out and it was terribly noisy in a bad way.

then you're a first impression newb. You can never judge a band that's been going strong for over 25 years by an EP in the 80's.

Umm it doesn't get much better going beyond that EP either.
