What are some thrash albums where song after song, you swear you must've heard the same drum pattern twice or more. An album that's not necessarily bad by any means, but just has drumming that is lackluster compared to the speed and power fo the riffing. Sodom's "Code Red" showed a bit of a predictable performance, the same beat over and over especially given the band's speed.

Not tecnically Thrash, but Abbadon seems to be a less than positive aspect of the once godly Venom.
Even still, his lethargy was not enough to keep Mantas and Cronos from lighting up the night.

As for strictly Thrash drummers...

Sometimes really mundane drumming sounds the best to me. I don't know why.

I can't fucking believe how lazy and unmelodic some drummers are. I am not a drummer. Never owned a kit, don't know the mechanics of the instrument ect. outside a snare drum I had for a long time. But how hard is it to come up with something decent? And why do people that program computers or drum machines coming up with more interesting material. I gotta say it is laziness.

But I am not a drums guy at all. If I even notice they are there they are good because I basically ignore them. The first time I listened to Rush did I notice they were a melodic and interesting aspect to music.

Edit: I also think Lars is a great drummer and a pleasure to hear, the annoying tone on St. Anger is actually getting more and more comical and surreal by the day. I still cant believe that is the album that was released.

Lars Ulrich. He was the least Thrashy of all the Thrash metal drummers and seemed to be playing standard rock beats most of the time.

It worked though.

In the end it doesn't matter. IMO Thrash and Metal in general are about guitars while the drummer is secondary.

I don't understand the modern obsession with drummers.

Drums are fucking awesome. I think I prefer bands with excellent drumming and OK guitars than a band with OK drumming and excellent guitars.

Of course, it would be better if they were both excellent.

I think having a good drummer can be detrimental to the sound. So many bands with good drummers ala Necrophagist or Cephalic Carnage crank up the drums too loud in the mix at the expense of the guitars.

This is why I prefer groovier DM stuff ala Bolt Thrower, Gorefest, Carcass etc.

I also love stuff like Pantera cause it's all about the guitars and I couldn't care less what Vinnie Paul was doing.

All about the perfect balance with the guitars and drums.

Great riffs with drumming that works.

The guy from Hammerfall is brilliant. Not the guitarist from In flames, but the other one. His stuff is always tasteful and compliments the songs well. It always sticks out. Not exactly thrash though.

And I do like Lars drumming, seriously.

some of Lars' drumming is good, some of it is weird sounding.

My actual answer is anyone that uses constant 16th notes of any sort, be it double bass or crash/splash. I think you know what I mean.

This has nothing at all to do with thrash drumming, but after listening to Under the sign of hell, that drum tone is absolutely fucking horrible.

I think the most boring drums are on Darkthrones Transilvanian Hunger.

From beginning to the end: dupp dupp dupp dupp dupp dupp dupp dupp dupp dupp dupp dupp...(or whatever you will call it )

Is Transylvanian Hunger thrash? And complaining about the drumming completely misses the fucking point of the album. But then again, you've never grasped the most rudimentary elements of black metal, so why should I be surprised?

Yeah... The drums are not the focal point of Transylvanian Hunger. Just read the review. They're there to be there, not to dazzle you with creativity.

Umm that's a dumb excuse to legitimize shitty drumming.

Hardly shitty. Fenriz is a great drummer when he wants to be, but they deliberately chose an understated, ambient style to better complement the music.
