By this I mean Lunar Strain through Colony. This band used to not suck. Lunar Strain is probably the heaviest and best form of the band. Whoracle is pretty awesome in small doeses. And Jester Race has some good parts and some weaker ones.

All in all, old In Flames was pretty damn good. I wish they had used a clean vocalist instead of the growl vocals. They would have been a wonderful power metal band.

Colony has some really awesome songs also. Zombie Inc. is the best example.

I agree with this, In Flames used to be a pretty damn great band.. Everything before Clayman in particular. I don't listen to them a lot anymore, but credit should be given where credit is due.

Can't we add Clayman to the great albums by In Flames? I know I love it.

The Jester race is a great album and I spin it from time to time, though I dont recall much from "Lunar strain" except Behind space. The band used to utilize melody in a way that is still influential, and hearing The Jester race is a trip back to memory lane.

I used to love it too but it has grown old. There are definitely some timeless In Flames songs on there though, no doubt about it.

This thread will probably end up the same way it always does, so there's really no point in arguing about it IMO.

Meh, even back when I was big into melodeath I was never really all that crazy about In Flames. They have a handful of cool songs on a lot of their albums but thats about it. Now At The Gates on the other hand.......

I made a 20 song mix of In Flames best tracks from Lunar Strain to Colony, with the title track from Clayman tacked on for good measure.

Nothing deep or revolutionary, but a damn good listen every now and then. :dio:

The Jester Race is still one of my all time favorite albums. But yeah, to Zad's point, this conversation is stale.

The only one i own is Colony; it's very catchy and very gay at the same time.

HT, you fuckin dissapoint me alot; i used to think you were a proper metalhead...

Just stick to Agent Steel, Dark Angel and Holy Terror, and leave all that gay melodeath to the fuckin posers.

The Evil dead disapproves of this comment, but he listens to good stuff like Dying Fetus so it's all good.

So thanks for making a thread that 90% of the metal community agrees upon and has been stating for over a decade.

All of your posts make HT look better and better by comparison.

How does being stuck in the 80s feel?

If stub means that the 80s were a golden era for quality metal, he certainly does have a point. Alas, his stupid way of putting it ruins everything.

The golden era of metal is the present, man. Sorry. I think it always will be until the genre dies, if it ever dies. Thankfully due to the internet and digital media the genre has exploded and not only are we getting to experience what the deep ends of a lot of genres sound like, there's a lot more metalheads out there.

lol....I've never understood what a poser actually is. I mean, why would anyone want to pretend to be into metal? Its not like its going to get you laid or something, metal is still far from mainstream. Either you like something or you don't, simple. I can't stand deathcore because I think its death metal for noobs, but that doesn't mean they are all posers for listening to it. They just are new to the genre.
