I have long been under the impression that these guys were not something I'd be into. Back in the early days of Music Choice's so called Metal channel I heard a mid era song that I only recall sounding very Helmet/Pro-pain ish. I haven't gone back to that era but eventually I checked out their back catalogue since it was highly rated, and I got their first 3 cd's which I do enjoy.

Now fast forward to the present and their new cd is coming out and just WOW! This is some freakin' solid Thrash with some power elements. One thing I like about these guys is the Iced Earth vibe I get from their sound, that kind of power/thrash, very american sounding. Overall I highly recommend fans of this stuff to check 'em out if they haven't done so already. For those that have heard their new album what do you think, as well as what do you think of the band in particular?

The leads are great, as is the tone. :dio:

I still haven't heard the new one, but Doomsday for deceiver & No place for disgrace are great and a must-have for any metal fan.

I have Doomsday For The Deceiver and My God and I like them both. Pretty good band.

Nice to see I'm not alone in liking them. I still can't get over the new one, its one of the few albums that I've listened to repeatedly, and one that I'm not afraid to fork over the cash for. I too ordered it, had to sell off some games but it was worth it. The vocals, songwriting, leads and solos are just superb. The band really shows a sign of maturity in my opinion, without the fear of holding back. I thought Heathen's cd might be my top thrash album this year but nope!

So, 3 listens in and I've gotta say that I'm dissapointed, unfortunately. Far too much groove and chugga chugga breakdowns for my taste, and unfortunately those tend to crop up in nearly every song- so while I really like Hypocrite, for example, I can't stand the chorus. On the other hand, the lead guitar is awesome and there are some outstanding solos on here, even on songs that I otherwise dislike. And there are some great songs on here- I'm a big fan of Blackened Eyes Staring, Better off Dead, and Falling Short, and the closer Secret Life is also quite decent.

So, all in all, 65/100. Great lead guitar and a good vocal performance, some nice thrashy songs and moments, but what can I say? I really dislike groove unless it's done very well and I can't stand chugga chugga.

as did I. but, and theres always a but, they couldn't live up to their name.

definitely an oftern overlooked band with some good albums under their belt, too bad this couldn't live up to their name. even if it was more like their mid-90s stuff it would of been decent. but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

live and learn
