I purchased Gallows Gallery looking for a band I thought was Black Metal. While the remastered version (with the blue cover ) is certainly very good I am deeply confused. Was Sigh ever a BM band??? And if so, which release would be their best under this genre label??? |

Yeah, back in the day. Hail Horror Hail's probably my favourite, but the stuff prior to that is more BM. |

Infidel Art and Scorn Defeat are mostly slow to mid-paced black metal with a bit of a thrash vibe and slight avant-garde leanings. Ghastly Funeral Theatre and Hail Horror Hail are much more classically/avant-garde influenced. Lots of synth's and keys but still with a backbone of a black/thrash hybrid (but not particularly fast). Imaginary Sonicscape and Gallows Gallery are barely black metal, more thrash with a lounge music/chilled out feel (IS) and a bit of an over the top power metal/classic heavy metal feel (GG). Hangman's Hymn and Scenes From Hell are fast, aggressive thrashy black metal releases with some classical stuff thrown over top. That's my evaluation of all the Sigh I own. Great band! ![]() |

I don't recall Hangman's Hymn being like that at all. ![]() Agreed with Zad on Hail Horror Hail. Scorn Defeat was fairly enjoyable too but anything after Hail Horror I had trouble enjoying. |

It's at least more aggressive and fast than HHH, SD or IA IMO. Personally I like every single thing I've heard from this band. |

Well, I would agree with that too...but what exactly do they have to do with each other in this thread? And Rhys, perhaps I am being a bit hard on them, I just really wasn't a fan of Imaginary and Gallows; I'll give Hangman's another shot. |

Dark Medieval Times is better than many albums by many bands, this is true. Regarding Sigh; never been too impressed with them, actually. |

Satyricon's first 3 albums still get many spins from me; in fact, their 4th album is a guilty pleasure too. |

I actually like Age of Nero quite a lot, was much better than I was expecting it to be. The first two albums are really very very good, though. Walk The Path Of Sorrow is one of my alltime favorite tunes, ever. |

Nemesis is very hit or miss, but I find the main riff on the title track makes up for any shortcomings. Walk the Path of Sorrow is, along with Into the Infinity of the Thoughts, the really iconic Norwegian Black opening tracks with the eerie intro that actually works. |

It's a bit off the beaten path for Satyricon, but it pulls me in. Agreed about the intro to Walk The Path Of Sorrow; the whole track is very martial, and I like that. Into The Infinity Of Thoughts (especially the mid-section) is one of the best, as well. |

That's how it goes here though. You never know where the path will lead once that first step is taken in any given thread, which makes it all the more interesting. |
