Who are some vocalists that you admire from differing from other vocalists from a respective subgenre? Is it their range, stage presence, or lyrical approach that you admire? Or are they just different enough that you recall them, can you imagine the vocalist singing in another subgenre of the music? |

Luc Lemay from Gorguts is probably my favorite DM vocalist. I just love how insane he sounds. |

Jason Mendonca: Epic/beautiful/brutal. Solid black and death style. JR Hayes: Stage presence, lyrics, aggression and pain all well wrapped up. Luke Kenny: Seems like a badass with an awesome growl yell. Chick from Landmine Marathon: Like Angela Gossow but actually good and she doesn't try to sound like a man. Not the best but I approve. |

His clean and black vocals are at the very top, but I find his brOOtal vox too low. |

They lack inflection but they hold their own. |

For thrash metal I like dudes with awesome voices that still sound badass, like Flemming from Artillery or the guy from Anacrusis. For death and black metal I like it when they sound crazy, like dudes from Weakling or !T.O.O.H!. That or just a simple, solid and catchy growl/scream like Arsis, Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed, Krallice, probably hundreds of others. |

Christian Älvestam of Scar Symmetry. That guy can do almost everything. From the lowest growls to the highest shrieks. Not to mention his singing. |

Great band, I love how they mix doom & thrash. |

Arioch : Funeral Mist. He has amazing range for an extreme metal vocalist. He can do screams and brutals equally awesome, and sometimes even does a creepy sounding cleaner style. His versatility is unmatched in black metal today. He doesn't use effects which is amazing. Dave Hunt : Anaal Nathrakh. The ferocity. I love his screams like a madman at the top of his lungs. He uses a lot of effects tough. But his growls in Benediction got my respect even higher for him. Garm : Ulver. His screams were good, but the clean vocals in Bergtatt remain the single most amazing use of clean vocals in black metal. Rainer Landfermann : Bethlehem. His one album with Bethlehem, Dictus te Necare, is still my favorite scream vocals recorded to this day. He was unique. I have never heard such power behind a scream. Too bad he isn't doing anything now. And Bethlehem sucks balls now. Kvarforth : Shining. Pretty much like Lindermann, only a bit worse. When I heard he was doing an album with Bethlehem I had my hopes up, seeing he is the only person in the world to even come close to Lindermann's performance. Sadly it was a re-do of the classic S.U.Z.I.D album and sucked (which had Marco Kehren on vocals who was also very good). It's a shame they could not use him to get back to their former glory days. Peter Tagtgren : Bloodbath. His vocals on Nightmares... is my favorite brutal vocal performance. Ever. Christian Älvestam : Scar Symmetry. Probably my favorite vocalist lately. Deep growls and great high pitched shrieks. But his clean singing is his best. Robert Lowe : Candlemass. There is something unique in his voice, that I cannot explain. It gives me goosebumps. There couldn't be a better replacement for the mighty Messiah Marcolin. Bruce Dickinson : Iron Maiden. I'm not even going to say anything. The best. Period. I had to mention him even though he doesn't fit here. |

Abbath, Lord Worm, Katon W. De Pena, the Weakling guy for his uniqueness, Tom Araya for his high screams, ummmm... those are some big ones. |

Interesting as I usually don't care about vocalists in Death/Thrash. It's more power/heavy metal that in my mind has some great vocalists (Dickinson, Kirsch, Barlow, Dane). The two that stick out in my mind are: Dan Swano (Edge of Sanity) - great growl, great shouts, great clean vocals Martin Walkyier (mainly his Skyclad work) - massive presence. |
