As all of you know the term "big four" apply to the mainstream thrash acts Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer. Yet as most of us know the mainstream has no real perception of how broad thrash is, if you were a mainstream writer and had the opportunity to choose the bands who would they be?

Voivod, Celtic Frost, Sabbat, Kreator

Nearly said Sepultura but Max gets enough media time anyways.

Megadeth
Metallica
Anthrax
Slayer

The reason they are called the big four is because they are the four most successful thrash bands of the day. So, I know everybody will get on here and put Sodom, Destruction, Heathen, etc, but the "big four" title has rather little to do with personal preference or perceived quality.

Now if you want to make a thread about your top 4 thrash bands, then that is different. But that thread's been done several times.

Celtic Frost are a good choice as well as Kreator being one of my choices, I was listening to To mega therion and that band was really hinting towards the start of black metal. I still have yet to hear this Sabbat band though

Eh, it is "if you was a mainstream writer". I'd be far too busy telling people how awesome Tom G. Warrior's grunt was to worry about what people perceive. And Voivod can't get too much love, and are better than Metallica, Slayer etc put together.

That very well may be the case, but like I said, the big four title really isn't about quality. It speaks directly to the commercial success of those bands.

Holy Terror are one of the fastest bands I've ever heard, they even beat out Kreator for speed in my book.

Anyway

Kreator, Holy Terror, Demolition Hammer, Dark Angel
